[Redacted] launches October 31 – meet some of the Dark Iron Prison’s deadliest enemies – PlayStation.Blog

When re-envisioning Black Iron Prison for a fast action roguelike dungeon crawler, one of the first things we did was actually let our designers run amok with the creatures in game. We wanted a mix of familiar creatures from TCP and new villains for players to fight — but everything had to make sense in the crazy comic-book-inspired futuristic punk world of [Redacted]launches October 31 on PS5.

We were stuffed [Redacted] with the enemy, so I’ll just share a few of the studio’s favorites.

[Redacted] launches October 31 – meet some of the Dark Iron Prison's deadliest enemies

First up are the Danglers, these guys originated from The Callisto Protocol but we took it [Redacted]Big comic brush for them.

Dangerous ones often spawn in groups and crawl towards you, exploding when they get close and dealing serious damage. They are weak so stronger weapons can one-shot these guys and you can use GRP or rocks to knock them down on other enemies. Sounds easy, right?

Well, in the early rooms they’re easy to remove, but they’ll definitely sneak up on you when things get busy. And they come in four different flavors. Basic Danglers deal damage over an area, but the Lightning, Fire, and Cryo versions are a bit tricky – when killed, they explode and leave a large electrical, fire, or cryo hazard in their wake. Make sure you don’t lock yourself into it.

Next is the Magnetic Adapter. They are completely new to [Redacted].

We dream these guys will force players to quickly change their tactics. Cybernetic Switchers are fast melee enemies that attack in groups. It’s worth noting that they can alternately block melee and ranged attacks – forcing you to change your combat approach mid-battle. Or, you know, you can kick them off the ledge, that works too.

Dasher is, as the name suggests, a dash. It’s one of our fastest enemies, rushing from point to point while launching melee attacks. There is also a variant that ignores melee attacks and leaves grenades behind. Their speed makes them difficult to take down and defeat, so keep moving to avoid their attacks and force them into submission when there are openings. You can also use GRP to stagger them and get in close to finish them off quickly.

The next three enemies we haven’t even seen before and are all located in the final level of the game, so you know they’re going to be tough. And it all works together to turn those final rooms into a fierce battle – but we’ll give you some tips to help you get ready.

The crazy inmates that inhabit the prison are physically weak opponents – but they aren’t necessarily there to hurt you directly since they actively distance themselves from you. They sow chaos by hurling gravity grenades into the thick of battle, drawing you towards the epicenter, allowing other enemies to focus their attacks on a single point. The only point is you.

Rush to escape the effect or face failure. I recommend taking out these enemies quickly, but be careful as the next two enemies we’re looking at are also likely there.

Robot Shaman is not Actually magic but it can sometimes feel that way as it buffs nearby enemies by granting them shields that you must overcome before damaging them.

But Robot Shaman is not without the power to cause damage. It deploys a large electric dome that deals damage if you are trapped inside. You’ll need to quickly balance handling the newly shielded enemies, staying within striking distance to damage the mage but not so close you’ll get caught in its electric dome.

And finally, one of the other big bad points of The Callisto Protocol, Two-Head. They are slow but large and dangerous. We tweaked these a lot throughout the game’s development.

Two-Head evolves from a melee-focused character into a dangerous ranged enemy, dealing AoE damage and additional damage over time. Oh, and it disorients you for a few seconds. Avoid their ground attacks and stay close behind them to deal heavier backstab damage to take them down quickly.

I wish I could tell you about all the enemies because we’ve only scratched the surface, but there are too many to talk about here. The great thing is that if you pre-order a PS5, you can explore and experience them for yourself right this second. Otherwise, [Redacted] launches October 31 on PS5.
