Details on the tragic drowning of two Brazilian influencers
After partying on a yacht near SΓ£o Paulo on September 29, two influencers, Aline Tamara Moreira de Amorim and Beatriz Tavares da Silva Faria, joined four others on a speedboat to shore. Reports said they refused to wear life jackets for fear of damaging their clothes and photos, and drowned when rough waters capsized the crowded boat.
Per PEOPLE, the accident occurred in the area known as Garganta do Diabo, (Devil’s Throat). The group was returning to shore on a small boat when a wave hit, throwing all seven passengers into the water. New York Post Office reported that the speedboat captain told police that he was ordered to carry six passengers, even though the boat was limited to five people. The overloaded ship struggled to overcome the fierce waves, eventually causing the boat to flood and pushing passengers overboard. The pilot, who has not yet been identified, told police he tried to rescue everyone who fell into the sea but was only able to save a few survivors.
More about the two influencers and survivors
Vanessa Audrey da Silva, one of the five survivors, told the New York Post that she frantically grabbed a life jacket and clung to a rock as the boat sank.
Police said the Brazilian Maritime Fire Service recovered the body of Beatriz Tavares da Silva Faria after it drifted out to sea. Aline Tamara Moreira de Amorim posted photos on social media from the luxury yacht just minutes before she drowned; Her body is believed to have washed ashore on Itaquitanduva beach a week later.
