Sega will delist Sega Classics games

Sega will delisting its classic games from digital storefronts will start from December 6, 2024. However, if you have purchased them before then these titles will still be available in your library to download down in the future.

The entire Sega Classics game library is available on the delisting announcement website. So if you’re curious about a particular title, you can check it out. The affected stores are Steam, Microsoft Store, Nintendo Switch eShop and PlayStation Store. This only concerns games you purchase and download to your device. So individual classic titles available through a Nintendo Switch Online subscription are still playable.

Affected titles include:

  • Alex Kidd in The Enchanted Castle
  • Crazy taxi
  • Dr. Robotnik’s normal bean machine
  • Ecco Jr.
  • Golden ax
  • Mysterious Star II
  • Shining force
  • Space plane II
  • Streets of rage
  • ToeJam & Earl
  • Virtual fighter 2

Again, the full list is available on Sega’s website.

It’s unclear why Sega delisted the Mega Drive and Genesis Classics titles. Some of these games are only available in their original formats because they have never had a remake or port. Others will see a revival, but as new item in franchising. If there’s a game you’re curious about, you might want to buy it to keep in your library for later. It’s unknown if Sega plans to bring these back.
