Update [Tue 12th Nov, 2024 16:30 GMT]: It’s been a few weeks since Sabotage Studio announced the release date for Sea of ​​Stars’ free ‘Dawn of Equinox’ update, but it’s finally here!

The latest patch arrived on Nintendo Switch today, adding local co-op, the game’s new combat system, improved opening credits, new cinematics, difficulty settings, and more moreover – all that (yes, we’ll say it again) because free of charge.

Original article [Mon 30th Sep, 2024 15:00 BST]: Well, this was a pleasant surprise. Before next year DLC ‘Throes of the Watchmaker’Sabotage Studio announced today other Feature-rich free update to the ultimate nautical RPG Sea of ​​stars. Furthermore, it will set sail November 12.

The ‘Dawn of Equinox’ update is primarily aimed at adding some of the game’s most requested features, with Sabotage saying it represents “a fully realized vision of the breathtaking adventure of Sea of ​​Stars”.

So what’s included? The big addition is the local cooperative, something that has been brief tease earlier this year and will see you able to play the entire story with up to two other friends (there’s even a new Co-Op Timed Hits system so you can take on enemies as a team).

On top of that, there’s also a new combat system, appropriately called Combat 2.0, that offers a new way to overcome enemy barriers and gain Combo Points. You’ll also find a completely revamped opening sequence with dedicated action sequences, new cinematic effects, difficulty presets, and more.

Brand new local cooperative: Sea of ​​stars‘ the story will be playable in its entirety by up to three players, with allies traveling the world together and mastering the new Co-op Timed Hits combat mechanic.
Combat 2.0: The addition of Arcane Locks brings a new gameplay loop around revealing ways to break enemy spells each time a new type is encountered in battle. Along with “Reveal” functions added to certain playable character special skills, Combo Points now remain after battle, providing new ways to open certain encounters or Test different damage types on enemies to reveal their locks. A comprehensive balance pass has also been implemented to reflect both these new changes and player feedback since launch.
Revamped prologue: Implementing combat for the younger versions of our heroes, the updated stream will remove the flashback structure that begins with their childhood, directly including the action in the opening sequence.
Additional footage: A brand new cutscene has been added to highlight a key moment in the original adventure, called “Paths on Water”.
Speedrunner mode relics: This new item enables a series of useful features for those looking to set new personal or world records.
Difficulty preset: There are now three difficulty options when starting a new game, preset using the game’s Relics. New relics have also been added, both in terms of quality of life and difficulty adjustments.
Improved Parrot Relics: Sea of ​​stars‘ the secret tracking parrot has learned some new tricks to better assist players in tracking down missed challenges and collectibles.
