Harshita Brella’s husband was arrested by police in September after she reported domestic violence, the police watchdog confirmed.

An international manhunt was launched for Pankaj Lamba after Ms Brella’s body was found. found in the boot of a car in Ilfordeast London, on November 14.

Police believe Ms Brella, 24, was strangled to death in Corby, Northamptonshire, on November 10 and have named Mr Lamba, 23, as the main suspect in the investigation.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said it was investigating Northamptonshire Police after Ms Brella reported domestic abuse in August.

The IOPC added that Mr Lamba was arrested on September 3 and released on bail conditions and a domestic violence protection notice.

An international manhunt is underway for Pankaj Lamba

IOPC Regional Director Derrick Campbell said their investigation took place after the police force introduced themselves.

“We will review the police response to the domestic abuse report made by Ms Brella at the end of August this year,” he said.

“We will consider further liaising with Northamptonshire Police with Ms Brella in relation to the incident.”

Mr Campbell said the inquiry will look at the actions and decisions of Northamptonshire Police in relation to their dealings with Ms Brella.

He added: “We will be contacting Ms Brella’s family to explain our role and express our sincere condolences.”
