Monster Hunter-style RPG ‘Dauntless’ gets overhaul in next week’s ‘Awakening’ update
Back in 2019, developer Phoenix Labs got involved Monster hunter Practice with a free-to-play mode based on Capcom’s monster-slaying formula. As a result bravean online RPG with a decent gameplay loop that really hits home on the Switch.
In the years since, Dauntless has slipped somewhat from our minds (2019 feels like a long time ago, after all), but next month, Phoenix Labs will introduce a monster update , serving as “a major overhaul of the game”.
Dauntless: Awakening launches on December 5transforms the progression of the game into a new seasonal structure. The first season (appropriately called ‘Awakening’) introduces a new Behomoth monster, Karkonos, for you to hunt and a brand new map, Twilight’s Domain, where you’ll find it.
Operating seasonally, the new Dauntless will see weapon and armor sets unlocked by completing weekly challenges – of course there will be more rewards for those with the new paid ‘Hunt Pass’. You can get 18 new weapons by completing standard missions, with 11 more weapons added to your arsenal via ‘Weapon Tokens’ earned from challenges.
The Awakening update also improves First Time User Experience (FTUE) to help newbies feel more comfortable going into their first hunt, and also features a new tutorial to introduce the new progression system.
On top of that, next week’s update also enables full cross-development and launches on Steam, so you can continue your hunt on any platform (if you’re logged into your account, of course). Epic Games). You can find a full list of everything included in this update on Phoenix Labs blog.
