Sonic the Hedgehog’s third big screen outing is this week and the reviews are now coming in…

This outing brings Shadow into the picture and it seems so far, reviews are (mostly) enjoying the fun and family-friendly action. Many comments also praised Jim Carrey’s efforts as well as the addition of Keanu Reeves.

Diversity said it was “faster and more fun”:

“The plot finds room for the Master Emerald, the super-powered gem introduced in the most recent “Sonic” movie, and for Tails the fox (Colleen O’Shaughnessey) and Knuckles the echidna (Idris Elba), now one part of Sonic’s superhero-creature team. But the real star is Fowler’s shape-shifting filmmaking, deft enough to revel in blockbuster overkill and skewer at the same time. It.”

GameRadar+ thought Sonic 3 was predictable but fun – awarded it 3 out of 5 stars:

“Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is an overstuffed installment in the franchise that’s simple and predictable – but incredibly fun. Anchored by two great characters, Sonic and Robotnik, this is a family-friendly adventure that does nothing to revolutionize the formula that Fowler has developed but keeps the wheels turning fast enough to get people excited for a sequel.”

Gaming Bible said Sonic 3 is “the best film in the trilogy”:

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 That’s so great. This is actually the best movie in the trilogy so far, but I still believe that the next movie could be even better if they keep this momentum going. It’s hard to believe that we started from a terrible, shoddy design for the live-action Sonic The Hedgehog and somehow ended up here, it’s truly surreal.”

Our friends at European gamers called it a “fitting finale to the year of Darkness” – awarded it 4 out of 5 stars:

“Sonic 3 was a resounding success and a fitting finale to the Year of Darkness. It’s nimble and self-aware, balancing its broad pop culture appeal with the authenticity of its source material, in as flashy action thrills with a sense of unbridled fun that’s only enhanced by Reeves as Shadow. Between this year’s games and movies, Sonic shines brightly with Shadow in tow. “

And IGN awarded Sonic’s third film a score of 6 out of 10 – mentioning that these films keep getting “better” and also praising Jim Carrey’s performance:

“They may have started off wrong, but the Sonic the Hedgehog movies just seem to get better and better. Going beyond the silly buddy comedy of the original and the tired pop culture references of The sequel is a little better, this third installment offers much more pleasing CGI, luckily with fewer human weaknesses and a kind of tortured sound in Shadow, a human villain Fan favorite voiced by Keanu Reeves The real draw, however, is Jim Carrey, forced out of retirement to deliver a dual villain performance that doubles down on all the exaggerated comic pleasures of his ongoing role as Dr. Robotnik. his.”
