It’s been a very busy but very good year for Nicholas Hoult
If there’s one person who has a lot to celebrate this year, it’s that Nicholas Hoult. The actor has had one of his most successful years, starring in three major films with release dates in November and December: Robert Eggers‘S Nosferatu, Justin Kurzel‘S Command, And Clint Eastwood‘S Juror No. 2.

But the roles couldn’t be more different. After an outbreak at age 11 in About a boy, Hoult has proven himself to be a nimble actor who can lead charming, funny period pieces like the Hulu show. Great Emperor and the movie Favourite; films as varied in genre as zombie romantic comedies Warm body and vampire comedy Renfield; and superhero movies like the X-Men movies, along with more dramatic projects like those three movies this year.
IN Nosferatu, will hit theaters on Christmas Day, Hoult plays a man and his newlywed wife (Lily-Rose Depp) has a dark connection to a monster who is infatuated with her. Hoult tries to support his new family by selling real estate to a mysterious figure but is pulled into a dark and horrifying situation. IN Command, released on December 6, Hoult plays real-life white supremacist leader Bob Mathews, who is being sought by the FBI. And finally, in Juror No. 2, he plays a recovering alcoholic who finds himself on the jury and quickly realizes that he may actually be the one responsible for the death at the center of the trial.
Hoult, who will next play Lex Luthor in James Gunn‘S Superman, talked to Little golden boys (listen below) about the distinct differences between the three directors of those films, what he loves most about horror movies, and whether he’ll let his kids follow in his footsteps as actors capsule or not.
Vanity Fair: Do you have time between filming these three projects?
Nicholas Hoult: No, they are very close to each other. We shot Nosferatu in Prague early last year, then I flew home on Saturday, then on Monday I had to fly to Calgary, and we started filming Order on Wednesday. I had a day of rehearsals, prep and fittings, then I started filming almost immediately. Then that’s done and I go back to LA for a screen test Superman that weekend and then fly to Savannah. On Monday, we prepare, rehearse and pack, then we start shooting. Juror No. 2 on Wednesday.
Is it difficult for you to switch from one character to another?
The biggest leap was working with three different directors because they were so different in their approach. And obviously the characters are very different, so this kind of overlaps a little bit: At the end of the scene Nosferatu, I’m preparing Order and started reading about that and mentally preparing myself for that character. I’ll be in the trailer on lunch day Nosferatu, but I will give Bob Mathews voice training and send Justin Kurzel his voice recordings.
