Kenneth Fire: LAPD arrests arson suspect


The Los Angeles Police Department has arrested an arson suspect who they believe caused the Kenneth fire. KTLA reports that Los Angeles police responded to claims of an individual attempting to start a fire in the Woodland Hills, California area on Thursday, January 9.

Details on the Kenneth Fire near Woodland Hills

According to KTLA, the Kenneth Fire started around 2:30 p.m. in dry brush in the Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space, just north of Highway 101. By 9 p.m., the fire had grown to 1,000 acres, Firefighters have controlled 35% of the fire.

According to HillLAPD Senior Chief Charles Dinse stated that investigators are treating the incident as a crime. Dinse also mentioned that investigators have yet to determine the individual’s motive for starting the fire, which has burned 900 miles in the Golden State. Additionally, Dinse noted that the fire may have been a “case of arson.”

More About the Suspects & What’s Next for Them?

Authorities are actively investigating the arson case but have not shared further details about the suspect. Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said NewsNational in an interview, according to The Hill, that action could amount to murder, which carries a potential life sentence.

“Justice will be swift. It will be tough and will seek maximum punishment.” Hochman said.

Furthermore, Hochman emphasized their commitment to bringing justice to the crime and their determination to send a clear warning through their actions.

“Our goal is to send this warning. Whether it be looting, cyber fraud, looting or arson in the future. We want to bring justice and we will do it,” Hochman explains.
