Our Place Always Pan 2.0 Review: My Favorite Cookware Set
My colleague WIRED The reviewers are some of the smartest people I know. Ask a Gear team member any questions, whether it’s about zipper quality, knob feel, material durability, or whether blue is actually more green, and they’ll have informed opinions (and supporting resources). So a few years ago, when my late grandmother gave me Our Place Always Pan, I was a little worried. WIRED contributor Joe Ray gave it a score of 3 out of 10.
But I love my grandmother, who was excited to give me something trendy and useful, and the pan looks cool. So I cook on it. And since then, I’ve cooked 99% of my meals on it.
Our location has heard feedback from customers and reviewers. Ray wasn’t the only person on the Internet who had problems with the first version of Always Pan. The one I received and the one currently for sale is a refurbished Our Place Always Pan 2.0. It is available in three sizes. I always use the standard size, which is 10.5 inches. And I love it to pieces.
Second chance
Negative feedback on the first iteration of pan is valid. It had quality control issues, such as an uneven bottom surface, an inconsistent cooking surface from pan to pan, and an inconsistent paint finish. It’s also not oven safe. But I’m happy to report that in my experience with two separate Always Pan 2.0 models (the gift I received as a gift and another model I ordered for comparison), this pan comes out nearly perfect. And that’s before you factor in any of the countless accessories available to complement it. It comes in a variety of colors and each pan comes with a lid, steamer basket (which doubles as a colander), and nesting spoon.
I contacted the company to see what had changed from the original pan to the Always Pan 2.0. Newer pans have improved non-stick performance, better stain resistance, and an induction-friendly, oven-safe design. The appearance also sees some changes, such as a more spacious assist handle and improved curvature. The company hasn’t officially addressed the problem of bulging or chipping cooking surfaces that Joe Ray encountered, but my cooking surfaces (on two pans) are fine and the paint on both pans looks great (even if it looks near the).
