Tyla spoke up after the group turned off the "Color" question.

South African singer Tyla has released a statement after refusing to answer questions on ‘The Breakfast Club’.

UpRoxx reports that the “Water” singer has allowed her team to end the investigation into her racial identity.

When the Johannesburg-based South African hitmaker recently appeared on the popular radio show, Charlamagne Tha God asked her what it means to identify as “colored.” Instead of answering, Tyla looked over at her team, sitting behind her. A voice said, “Can we not, please?” In response, Charlamagne said the program would not edit their request to continue the question.

In an interview with around the world published in April, Tyla spoke about how race is defined differently in South Africa than in the United States. In South Africa, biracial people are identified as “colourful.” However, the term was abandoned by African Americans in the US because it was used to identify them during the Jim Crow era of segregation.

After the interview, the 22-year-old made an energetic statement “Aht Aht”. She took to her Instagram Story and posted a message saying, “Never deny my Blackness, I don’t know where that comes from.”

She went on to explain that she is of mixed African, Irish, and Indian descent. Additionally, the entertainer once again explained how race is defined in South Africa. She ended her sentence by saying, “To end this conversation, I am both a colored person in South Africa and a black person. [woman]…”

During her interview with ‘The Breakfast Club’, Charlamagne also asked Tyla if she had seen the framing quote that Kevin Hart presented to Kai Cenat during their most recent broadcast. The frame contains a rejection quote when Cenat asked her out on a date: “We are friends.”

The “Truth or Dare” singer said Hart and Cenat were prolonging the viral moment, but it was still funny.

Social media reacted to Tyla’s statement

The roommates weighed in on the dancer’s statement after her awkward moment on ‘The Breakfast Club’.

@jaysun_rand stated, “This is primarily an American obsession. She is from SA…We should respect her decision to not be placed under ‘America’s Racial Marker box at this time.’

“Americans really think the world revolves around them. You better go out to Miami and learn,” @tumexxjr stated.

@y0_53f added, “She’s right, race is not your entire identity.”
