Miyamoto shares a surprise update about the new Mario movie ahead of the Nintendo Direct

Front Nintendo Direct todayShigeru Miyamoto shared a surprise update on social media about new Super Mario Bros. Movierevealed the Japanese launch date and also shared a bit of detail about the project.

First, he confirmed this new movie will arrive in Japan on the day April 24, 2026, so that’s the same month as the Western release. As for the project itself, Miyamoto said he is working with Illumination to ensure it is another “fun movie” and hopes people will look forward to it. So, good news on all fronts!

This latest update follows the original announcement during this year’s ‘MAR10 Day’ celebration, confirming the next animated installment will be released. come here in the west on April 3, 2026. Nintendo didn’t reveal much else at the time but it would once again be “based on the world of the Super Mario Bros.” series.
