Jogger injured by wolf in Thoiry park

A woman is in intensive care after being attacked by a wolf while jogging in an animal park near Paris, French media reported.

They said that early on Sunday morning, the 36-year-old victim – who was staying at a motel in Thoiry Park – wandered into the main game area, which is reserved for cars.

She was attacked by three Arctic wolves and suffered severe bites to her neck, back and legs.

Thoiry, about 40km (25 miles) west of Paris, is one of France’s most famous wildlife parks. The approximately 800 animals housed there are allowed to roam freely while visitors observe them from secure vehicles.

The park offers accommodation near wolf and bear enclosures, with the lodge area protected by electric fences and ditches, France Info news site reported.

It’s unclear why the woman entered a car-only hunting area. The park authorities have not commented so far.

An anonymous police source told Le Parisien newspaper: “At this stage, we don’t know whether the customer was confused or if there was a problem with the signage.”

The woman was rescued after park attendants heard her screams during the attack and was taken to a nearby hospital.

An investigation is underway.
