The AAdvantage Executive Card is has been overhauled in July 2023, including increased annual and authorized user fees and increased accrual rates. The card earns 4 miles per dollar spent on eligible American Airlines purchases and 1 mile per dollar on all other purchases. After you spend $150,000 with your card in a calendar year, you’ll earn 5 miles per dollar on American Airlines purchases for the remainder of the year. Additionally, you’ll earn 10 miles per dollar on eligible car rentals and hotels booked through American car rental And hotel booking sitescorresponding.
At $595, the AAdvantage Executive card has a much higher annual fee than other options, but it comes with a notable benefit for frequent flyers — Access to Admirals Club for you and any authorized users and up to two passengers traveling with you when you have a same-day boarding pass for an eligible flight, bonus points, travel protections, and statement credits for car rentals, food delivery, ride-hailing, and Global Entry/TSA PreCheck.
This card is great for those who frequently fly with American and want to enjoy priority benefits like valuable statement credits and Admirals Club access.

Citi / AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard
The Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite Mastercard® is Citi’s mid-range AA option.
Welcome Bonus: Get 50,000 bonus miles after spending $2,500 within the first three months of account opening.
Annual Fee: $99, free for first 12 months
Best for: American Airlines regular passenger.
This welcome bonus is worth $850, according to TPG’s July 2024 report valuation. This card charges a reasonable annual fee of $99 (first year free) and comes with No foreign transaction fees.
This card offers 2 miles per dollar spent on eligible American Airlines flights, restaurants, and gas purchases. As a cardholder, you’ll also earn 1 Loyalty points for every 1 eligible AAdvantage mile earned on purchases. A great feature of the personal card is the ability to earn a $125 American Airlines flight rebate after you spend $20,000 or more on purchases during your card membership year and renew your card.
In addition to the 2 miles per dollar and $125 flight discount, you’ll get benefits like priority boarding, First checked baggage free for you and up to four companions, plus discounts on in-flight snacks and drinks.

The American Airlines AAdvantage® MileUp® Program The card is Citi’s basic AA product.

Annual Fee: $0
Best for: Beginners looking to earn American Airlines miles.

The Citi® / AAdvantage Business™ World Elite Mastercard® (see prices and fees) is Citi’s business card for AA loyalists.
Welcome Bonus: Earn 65,000 miles after spending $4,000 on purchases in the first four months of account opening.
Annual Fee: $99, free for first 12 months
Best for: Business travelers.
This bonus is worth $1,105, according to TPG’s July 2024 report. valuation. And for most small businesses, the threshold for feasible spending over four months is $4,000.
With the Citi AAdvantage Business, you’ll earn an industry-standard 2 miles per dollar spent on eligible American Airlines purchases, plus 2 miles per dollar spent on eligible purchases business costsincluding telecom merchants, cable and satellite providers, car rentals, and gas stations. The card includes perks like free checked baggage when flying American.
If you spend $30,000 on the card in a year of card membership, you’ll also be rewarded Certificate of Companionship — lets you bring a companion on a flight for $99 plus taxes/fees. Certificates are issued upon account renewal and must be open at least 45 days after the anniversary date.

If you’re looking to grow your AAdvantage balance to save for future travel — or if AAdvantage program highlights fits your travel goals — it might be time to snag one of these co-branded American Airlines cards.
Remember Citi does not offer travel protection on many Citi cards (but now reintroduced on Executive cards), you should consider before booking travel with your co-branded Citi card.
You can still keep an American Airlines co-branded credit card in your wallet for exclusive American Airlines benefits and miles earning potential, but do the math to figure out which card in your collection is best for booking flights.
