The AAdvantage Executive Card is has been overhauled in July 2023, including increased annual and authorized user fees and increased accrual rates. The card earns 4 miles per dollar spent on eligible American Airlines purchases and 1 mile per dollar on all other purchases. After you spend $150,000 with your card in a calendar year, you’ll earn 5 miles per dollar on American Airlines purchases for the remainder of the year. At $595, the AAdvantage Executive card has a much higher annual fee than other options, but it comes with a notable benefit for frequent flyers — Access to Admirals Club for you and any authorized users and up to two passengers traveling with you when you have a same-day boarding pass for an eligible flight, bonus points, travel protections, and statement credits for car rentals, food delivery, ride-hailing, and Global Entry/TSA PreCheck.

Citi / AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard

The Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite Mastercard® is Citi’s mid-range AA option.

Annual Fee: $99, free for first 12 months

Best for: American Airlines regular passenger.

The Citi® / AAdvantage Business™ World Elite Mastercard® (see prices and fees) is Citi’s business card for AA loyalists.

Welcome Bonus: Earn 65,000 miles after spending $4,000 on purchases in the first four months of account opening.

Annual Fee: $99, free for first 12 months

Best for: Business travelers.

If you’re looking to grow your AAdvantage balance to save for future travel — or if AAdvantage program highlights fits your travel goals — it might be time to snag one of these co-branded American Airlines cards.

Remember Citi does not offer travel protection on many Citi cards (but now reintroduced on Executive cards), you should consider before booking travel with your co-branded Citi card.

You can still keep an American Airlines co-branded credit card in your wallet for exclusive American Airlines benefits and miles earning potential, but do the math to figure out which card in your collection is best for booking flights.

Also, be sure to note limitations on sign-up bonuses. With these Citi American Airlines cards, you won’t be able to earn a sign-up bonus on any version of the card if you’ve already received a new account bonus for that same card in the past 48 months.
