The far right has been demonizing Kamala Harris

The online far-right community is criticizing Vice President Kamala Harris after speculation that she could replace President Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee for president. US election.

But instead of focusing on her policies, experience or ability to do the job, the vicious attacks have focused on her sex life, her race and resurrected old conspiracy theories about her fitness to be president.

These attacks were fueled by former President Donald Trump. “He just dropped out, you know—he dropped out of the race,” Trump said of Biden, in a video first reported. Daily Beast last week and was later posted by Trump to his Truth Social account. “That means we have Kamala,” Trump added. “She’s terrible. She’s pathetic. She’s fucking terrible.”

On July 4, Trump posted about Harris on Twitter. Social truth“She did poorly in the Democratic nomination process, starting in the number two spot, and ending up defeated and dropping out before even getting to Iowa, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t a ‘highly talented’ politician!” he wrote. “Just ask her mentor, the great Willie Brown of San Francisco.”

Trump’s comments alluded to Harris’ relationship with Brown, the former mayor of San Francisco, in the mid-1990s. Although right-wing critics have accused her of having an affair with Brown because he was married at the time, a Reuters fact check from 2020 outlines how Brown had been separated from his wife for a decade before he began dating Harris.

The White House responded to Trump’s attacks. “I think it’s vulgar, I think it’s disturbing,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said. told reporters on Friday. “She should be respected in her role as vice president. She should be respected as any other vice president before her who has been in that room. It’s appalling, I’ll be careful here, that a former president would say that about a current vice president. And we should speak up—that’s not OK.”

But following Trump’s comments, supporters of the former president and far-right figures quickly began attacking Harris.

Harris has served for decades as a district attorney, state attorney general, senator and vice president. But the attacks have largely been racist and sexist, with some alluding to her engaging in sexual acts and suggesting they were linked to her success.

“Kamala is as brain dead as Biden,” Laura Loomer, a far-right troll, wrote on X on Wednesday. “She pretends to be black, has a documented history of performing oral sex on Willie Brown to climb the ladder, and is obsessed with infanticide.”

“Willi Brown’s f–k toy is good,” a member of the extremist forum The Donald wrote in response to a post about her possibly replacing Biden as the Democratic nominee.

Far-right supporters also argue that her race played a role in her success.

“This is why DEI is so dangerous: idiots like her are elevated above much smarter people so she starts to believe she is the smartest person in the room,” one member of The Donald wrote last week.
