Disney is rapidly ramping up year-round operations from Port Everglades. In November, Disney began year-round operations from Port Everglades for the first time with sailings on the 13-year-old Disney Dream and then the 25-year-old Disney Magic.

The move coincides with Disney opening its first dedicated cruise terminal at the port.

Port Everglades is the second port in the world where Disney operates year-round — the other is Port Canaveral.

New Hero-Themed Location

Disney also announced on Tuesday new hero-themed attractions planned for Disney Destiny that will not be available on the previous two ships in the Triton Class series. These include the first dining experience inspired by Disney’s hit animated film “The Lion King” and a candy store themed after “The Incredibles.”

As previously announced, Disney Destiny will have a “heroes and villains” theme that makes it unique compared to the Triton-class ships.

The new hero-themed locations announced for Disney Destiny on Tuesday are the first of many new locations for the ship, expected to be unveiled this week during a multi-day reveal of the ship’s new features.

“For Disney Destiny, we will introduce all-new cruise experiences inspired by the lore and legacy of some of Disney’s most iconic heroes and villains,” Sharon Siskie, senior vice president and general manager of Disney Cruise Line, said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “From the dining room to the stateroom and everywhere in between, guests on our new ship will be surrounded by extraordinary storytelling combined with the signature service and family-friendly adventures that are the hallmarks of a Disney Cruise vacation.”

A new ‘Lion King’ dinner show

Called “Pride Lands: Feast of The Lion King,” the new dining experience planned for Disney Destiny will take place in a savanna-inspired location that “will showcase unique images of animals and nature through lighting and special effects, while the back wall is lined with windows that will transition from a beautiful sunrise to a captivating sunset throughout the meal.”

As families dine, a colorful group of musicians and storytellers will perform on a stage in the center of the restaurant — with tiered platforms reminiscent of African drumming — to present a musical journey through the award-winning “Lion King” soundtrack, Disney said.

The entertainment will include iconic songs from the animated film, such as “Circle of Life” and “Hakuna Matata,” along with remixes of “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King” and “Be Prepared,” which Disney says will highlight the story’s hero-villain relationship.

The restaurant will also have themed menus.

An ‘amazing’ sweet shop

The new candy store, called Edna A La Mode Sweets, will be themed after Edna Mode’s lab, where the fashion designer from Pixar Animation Studios’ “The Incredibles” created superhero costumes.

Disney said in its announcement that “inspired by the short film ‘Aunt Edna,’ the lab’s state-of-the-art sewing equipment will be repurposed as a candy-making machine to entertain Jack-Jack, the unpredictable and highly unstable boy superhero.”

Other new locations

Other new locations announced Tuesday for Disney Destiny include two casual cafes located just off the ship’s central Grand Hall. One, Cafe Megara, named after the heroine of the Disney animated film “Hercules,” will pay tribute to that film’s world of ancient Greek gods and heroes. The other, Cafe Merida, will be inspired by the fiery-haired heroine of Pixar’s “Brave,” with a Celtic-inspired design that evokes her family’s Scottish Highland heritage, Disney said.

Cabins and suites ‘worthy of heroes’

On Tuesday, Disney also revealed new details about the cabins and suites planned for Disney Destiny, which it said are “worthy of a hero.”

Each stateroom on board features artwork depicting the epic journeys of famous Disney legends — a new theme.

Like all Disney ships, the rooms will be family-focused, with most featuring Disney’s signature split-bath concept. Many will have connecting doors allowing for larger accommodations.

Accommodation options will include a concierge suite with watercolor-style artwork “Fantasia.” Rooms will have access to exclusive areas and amenities, including a concierge lounge and private sundeck.

Additionally, seven special ocean-view rooms right above the bridge with stunning views from floor-to-ceiling windows will feature an “Incredibles” theme.

Other notable accommodations include four Hero Suites that honor the heroes of “Hercules” with designs inspired by Greco-Roman architecture, colors and patterns.

There’s also IncrediSuites that pays homage to “The Incredibles” with streamlined mid-century modern style.

The Triton Class ships are designed with 1,258 cabins that can accommodate 2,508 passengers in double occupancy. With each bunk bed and sofa bed pulled out, their total capacity increases to 4,000 passengers.

Disney Destiny is not yet open for bookings and a specific schedule for the ship’s departure from Port Everglades has not been set.
