Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Almost Had Another Name
Video games go through all sorts of changes during the planning and development stages, so it’s no surprise to hear another title is being seriously considered. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom at some point
This information comes from New Zelda Art Book ‘Master Works’with game producer Eiji Aonuma revealing that there was a time in this lengthy sequel project when the name could have been ‘Tears of the Dragon‘. Now, we will add one spoiler alert from here because there was apparently concern that the title would “emphasize the Light Dragon”.
Here is the translation, Courtesy of Nintendo Everything:
Eiji Aonuma: “Revealing that Light Dragon is Zelda would be a problem, and it would also affect the game. One of the candidates for the game that ended up being ‘Tears of the Dragon’.
But it would have been a bad idea to have the keyword ‘Dragon’ in the title, and we wanted to have dragon motifs in the logo, but decided against it. After all, it would have emphasized the Light Dragon (laughs). But no other good ideas came to mind, and we were running out of development time…”
Eventually, someone in the group suggested adding the word “Kingdom” to the title, and that’s how ‘Tears of the Kingdom’ became the final name, and “dragons in the logo” was able to be used. The group also felt that this new title still had a connection to Light Dragon.
Even as the name ‘Tears of the Kingdom’ was finalized, Nintendo decided to hold back on the official reveal. to avoid sharing too much information.
