Nintendo and Pokémon file lawsuit against Palworld developer Pocketpair

We have some breaking news, with Nintendo and The Pokémon Company announcing they have filed a lawsuit Palworld World Pocketpair developer.

In an official statement on Nintendo Japanese website. mentioned that a “patent infringement lawsuit” was filed with the Tokyo District Court this week against Pocketpair. Nintendo is seeking an injunction as well as damages.

Nintendo signed off by saying that it will continue to take necessary action to combat infringement of its IP. Here is the full text:

Nintendo Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Kyoto, Minami-ku, Japan; Representative Director and President: Shuntaro Furukawa, hereinafter referred to as “Nintendo”), together with The Pokémon Company, filed a patent infringement lawsuit with the Tokyo District Court against Pocketpair, Inc. (Headquarters: 2-10-2 Higashigotanda, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, hereinafter referred to as “Defendant”) on September 18, 2024.

This lawsuit seeks an injunction and damages on the grounds that Palworld Worlda game developed and published by Defendant, which infringed multiple patent rights.

Nintendo will continue to take necessary action against any infringement of its intellectual property rights, including the Nintendo brand, in order to protect the intellectual property the company has worked hard to build over many years.

In a statement earlier this year in January, The Pokémon Company said they would always take “appropriate action” to address any intellectual property infringement related to Pokémon.

The open-world survival crafting game Palworld was released earlier this year and proved to be a huge success on PC and Xboxwith the title also being available on Microsoft’s Game Pass subscription service. Since then, the game has also received a number of major updates adding new locations and ‘Pals’.
