A boy died after a commercial plane aborted takeoff, crashed through an airport fence and hit a car



A 12-year-old boy was among five people killed in the fire. fiery crash of a small commercial plane near a suburban Phoenix airport, authorities said Wednesday.

Preliminary information shows that the six-seat HondaJet HA-420 was headed to Provo, Utah when it aborted takeoff at Falcon Field in Mesa on Tuesday afternoon. According to authorities, the plane crashed through the airport’s metal fence before colliding with a vehicle moving on the road west of the airport.

It is unclear why the plane could not take off. The National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation with help from the Federal Aviation Administration and Mesa authorities.

Four of the five passengers on the plane died at the scene, Mesa police said. The unidentified pilot was hospitalized with severe burns.

Those on the plane included 12-year-old Graham Kimball and his 44-year-old father, Drew Kimball. The other two victims were Rustin Randall, 48, and Spencer Lindahl, 43, both listed as managers of Ice Man Holdings LLC, a Mesa-based company.

The vehicle driver also died at the scene. Authorities have withheld the person’s name pending positive identification.
