Video of the scene went viral Wednesday night across social media platforms, as the entire incident appeared to mimic a plot in a heist movie gone wrong.

Here’s what police say happened during the high-speed chase

The high-speed chase began around 2 p.m. near Santa Clarita, California, ABC7 reported. The Los Angeles Police Department first pursued the woman before the California Highway Patrol took over.

The woman, who has yet to be named by the press and police, is believed to have stolen a 2024 Honda CRV. She was said to have driven erratically through several areas of north LA before crashing into a concrete pillar. CBS News reported that she drove on the shoulder of I-5, at one point reaching speeds of up to 130. Additionally, she weaved through traffic at high speeds, including crossing the Construction separates northbound lanes. She eventually passed the Los Angeles-Kern line but then changed course and began heading south toward the San Fernando Valley.

At one point, she swerved across four lanes to get off the roadway. However, sliding onto the gravel curb near the exit, the woman lost control of the stolen car. It is known that she was driving at more than 100 mph when the Honda crashed into the road guardrail and rolled several times at a speed of 115 mph. The crushed car immediately emitted black smoke after hitting a concrete pillar under the overpass. According to CBS, an officer at the crash site called the woman’s death at the scene an “apparent death.”
