American adds four new routes, cuts two others and grows on Cape Cod
American Airlines is making a series of changes to its domestic flight network.
The Fort Worth-based airline recently submitted plans to add four new routes and cut two others, as first seen in Cirium’s schedule and later reported by an airline spokesperson. confirm.
For starters, the airline is growing at one of its newest headquarters: Hyannis, Massachusetts. The airline is adding summer seasonal service from Chicago and Philadelphia.
The airline will add daily service from Philadelphia starting June 19, 2025. It will then add Saturday-only flights from Chicago on June 21. Both flights will be operated by American Eagle subsidiary Envoy Air on Embraer E175 regional jets.
In addition to more flights to Cape Cod, the airline will launch two new limited-time routes for spring break. The airline will connect Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and Springfield, Missouri with Miami from February 15, 2025 to March 29, 2025.
Both routes will only operate on Saturdays during the spring break rush, but it’s possible they could be extended if there’s enough demand. After all, American has never operated these flights before, so it may entice some passengers to make the trip to South Florida thanks to the new nonstop route.
That said, it’s not all good news for the US network. The airline confirmed to TPG that it will withdraw from two seasonal markets effective immediately. This includes Charlotte to Spokane, Washington and Chicago to Reno, Nevada. Both of the most recent routes operated as seasonal summer services, and they apparently did not perform well enough to warrant flying another season.
Of all the changes, the additions in Hyannis are perhaps the most interesting. That’s because of the airline launches service to Cape Cod Gateway Airport (HYA) this past summer with daily flights from New York City’s LaGuardia Airport (DCA) and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) near Washington, DC
Hyannis, located on the Cape Cod peninsula, is one Popular seasonal destination for summer vacationers who want to enjoy the most beautiful beaches in the region.
American is the only global network airline serving Hyannis, so passengers will now have more connectivity opportunities to get to and from Cape Cod from hundreds of destinations worldwide.
It will be interesting to see how the airline’s new Chicago and Philadelphia routes perform. Until American came along, JetBlue had long had a monopoly at the station with seasonal service to New York. Regional airline Cape Air also flies to Hyannis from several airports in the Northeast.
