American Airlines confirms espresso is back – and added to business class, too
American Airlines confirmed to TPG that one of Flagship First’s favorite perks is back — and it’s rolling out to Flagship Business, too.
Espresso drinks are back on some American Airlines flights.
Passengers can now request specialty coffee drinks made with real espresso machines on select AA aircraft on international flights as well as premium transcontinental flights. The news was first flagged on X by @xJonNYC and reported by One mile at a time.
The airline is offering espresso drinks onboard Boeing 777-200 aircraft for the first time. Traditionally, American Airlines only offers espresso drinks in its true first class cabins on Airbus A321T and Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, equipped with both Flagship First and Flagship Business seats. It offers drinks from espresso machines on more planes and to more passengers.
Espresso coffee is also now available on American’s Boeing 787 aircraft.
The airline suspended espresso service during the COVID-19 pandemic and had not previously offered it to business class passengers. It is now available on Boeing 777-200, Boeing 777-300, 787 and A321T aircraft; it is also available in business class.

The ability to request a stronger dose of caffeine is one of my favorite features of first class. So I’m super excited because now I can do that in business class too.
It’s nice to see additional services being added as we wait for the new cabins coming soon from American. The airline is scrapping its first class cabin in favor of an overhauled business class cabin – one that will increase the number of premium seats – on all Boeing aircraft 777-300ER aircraft. It will also soon receive Airbus A321XLR aircraft with a brand new Flagship Business cabin.
