Antioch High School shooter identified, one student dead


The tragic shooting happened on Antioch High School in Nashville, Tennessee, on Wednesday, January 22, leaving the suspect and another student dead, with another student injured.

Details about the shooting at Nashville Antioch High School

The shooting happened in the Antioch High School cafeteria around 11:09 a.m. Police have identified the shooter as a 17-year-old male named Solomon Henderson who turned the gun on himself after the attack. He later died from his injuries as reported by CNN.

Vanderbilt University Medical Center confirmed a female student was killed in the attack and was identified as 16 years old Josselin Corea Escalanteeach Tennessee. Another student is said to have suffered an arm injury but is currently in stable condition. Besides, CNN noted that a separate student suffered facial injuries, although they were not believed to have been shot.

According to TennesseeSWAT searched for additional victims following the incident. However, “nothing was found.”

Antioch High School, located in Nashville’s Antioch neighborhood about 10 miles southeast of downtown, serves approximately 2,000 students in grades 9 through 12, according to the school’s official website.

Antioch High School responds to tragedy

Immediately after the shooting, the Nashville Metro School District addressed the situation X (formerly Twitter). They confirmed the school was on lockdown during the incident but assured everyone there was currently no threat to the campus. The district also promised to share updated information as they continue to investigate the situation.

“Antioch High School is on lockdown due to shots fired inside the school building. Metro Police are on the scene. The person responsible for the shooting is no longer a threat. We will gather students in the auditorium and will provide information about reunification as soon as possible,” the school district said in a statement after the incident.
