Apothecary’s Diary season 2 airs in January 2025
Part 2 is for Diary of an apothecary will start broadcasting from January 10, 2025. It will include two continuous broadcast routes. The streaming service has not yet been confirmed but the first season is already airing on Crunchyroll.
The show’s official X (formerly known as Twitter) account also posted the show’s new main image. It depicts Maomao and Jinshi standing in a building while the night sky looks ethereal behind them. On the side of the poster, there was a line loosely translated as “What awaits them is—” with no answer.
The first season runs from October 2023 to March 2024. As for where the anime stops, it stops around Chapter 40 of the manga and the end of Volume 2 of the original novel. As of the end of September 2024, the light novel had 14 volumes released in Japan. It’s unknown if there will be a change of pace or if this will simply be a long-running show. J Novel Club licensed the digital version of the light novel while Square Enix licensed the physical print. As for comics, square Enix licensed it and even though previous tax issues with illustrator, that is still going.
Diary of an apothecary takes place in Imperial China and it focuses on Maomao, who is kidnapped and sold to the Imperial Palace. Thanks to her experience as an apothecary in the red light district, she was able to find out the cause behind a mysterious illness that befell the emperor’s children and concubines. Despite her desire to remain anonymous, Jinshi, a eunuch, notices her and entices her to solve more mysteries for the court.
