What the developers shared with us
At HT Tech, we have worked with several developers to understand their creative journey and core. Here are some edited transcripts:
One of the winners of the Cultural Impact Award, Pixel Huntdeveloper of shipwreck showed us why having a game like The Wreck is easily accessible on a mobile device like an iPad or iPhone. “The Wreck is very accessible. The controls are not complicated and nothing in the game requires advanced skills. It is truly interactive with the story, making the game easy to play and perfectly suited to touchscreens,” said Florent Maurin.
“The most important aspect of mobile usage is the audience,” he added. For example, what we love about using iOS is that we can reach an audience that isn’t identified as “gamers.” Many of them may have never played a video game in their lives, but they all have an iPhone in their pocket. If they’re curious, they might try the game and realize that there are games for them—games that tell very interesting stories. That accessibility and inclusivity is one of the best things about being on mobile.”
super carwhose Demolition squad won the iPad Game of the Year award, telling us that audiences should be ready for surprises, as the developer is open to bringing non-Supercell IPs into the game in the future, as they did with Transformers. “We can look at sports, pop stars, and other areas—anywhere that has unique characters and fandoms that we can bring into the game. You know, anything that could be a ‘squad,’ as we call it in our group.”
Celebrating the winners, Apple CEO Tim Cook said: “We’re thrilled to honor this impressive group of developers who are harnessing the power of devices and technology. Apple to deliver experiences that enrich users’ lives and have a profound impact on their communities. He added, “The remarkable achievements of this year’s winners demonstrate the incredible ingenuity that can be unlocked through apps.”
