Are there any good Lord Of The Rings games on Nintendo consoles?

This year is 2025 and Lord of the Rings feels very much like it’s “a thing” again. Honestly, we’re not sure if it’s really gone away, but we are Rings of power on TV (and it’s actually pretty good now), Rohirrim War movie theater attack, a’Hunt for Gollum‘ movie is already planned and perhaps most importantly for us there will be more Middle Earth games coming soon.

Gollum coming to multiple consoles in 2023 — although the Switch version is still in limbo (which we’re sure you all know). devastated after Daedalic shut down its internal development team. But Tales of the Shire: The Lord of the Rings game — sure to win the Clunkiest Trophy Award of 2025 — is right around the corner, bringing a slice of Hobbit life to Switch in March. And, with Embracer Group now legally behind the wheel of IPWe would be surprised if things stopped there.

The future is complete, but what about the past? Honestly, the franchise is hardly lacking in gaming representation (two blockbuster trilogies would do the trick) and ‘Mordor‘ games with their favorite Nemesis System makes it easy to forget that no all The attempt to bring the world of JRR Tolkien into the gaming space was a success. “All that is gold does not glitter,” as the man himself wrote.

In case you need a reminder, us Nintendo loyalists were never lucky enough to get our hands on either of those ports. What we do have is enough tie-in movies to last a lifetime (the early 2000s were a crazy time, lest we forget), a bunch of strange LEGO and Arkenstone games that dared to break the formula link — shout out to Fire icon-esque GBA tactical entry, Third era.

Quantity is obviously not the issue, but what about quality? We complained There is a lack of Lord of the Rings RPG on Nintendo consoles before, but now we want to cast our net wider.
