Athletes report egg shortage in Olympic village


Some athletes have reportedly complained about food shortages at the Olympic Village in Paris.

According to the French newspaper, opponents said the amount of food available, specifically eggs, distributed for breakfast on Wednesday, and grilled meat, was insufficient. Formation.

The Olympic Village’s official catering partner, Sodexo Live!, has confirmed “very high demand” for certain products and said “production will be increased” to “meet the needs of the athletes”.

The Olympic Village is expected to serve around 13 million meals during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

A spokesperson for Carrefour, which is responsible for supplying fresh produce to the Olympic Village, confirmed: “We have requested an increase in the originally planned quantity so that the group can meet it.”

Feeding 15,000 international athletes from 208 territories and countries, along with support teams, officials and volunteers, is a huge task.

Over the two 15-day Olympic and Paralympic Games, more than 13 million meals will be served – the equivalent of 10 football World Cups.

Athletes have access to six main zones dedicated to French, Asian, African-Caribbean and world cuisine, with 500 different recipes to satisfy a variety of tastes.

A strict quality charter also governs food at the Paris Games, built over four years of work with the aim of halving the carbon footprint of meals produced during the Games, compared to London 2012.

As a result, a quarter of all ingredients will be sourced within a 250km radius of Paris and 20% will be certified organic.

All meat, milk and eggs will be imported from France and a third of food will be plant-based.

Two hundred water, juice and soft drink fountains have been installed in the Olympic Village and only reusable cups and ceramics are provided.
