Avelo Airlines announced 5 new routes opening in early 2025
Avelo Airlines has no plans to slow its rapid growth in Connecticut once the calendar turns to 2025.
The Houston-based ultra-low-cost carrier plans to add four new U.S. airports to its route map early next year, the airline announced Monday.
From February to May 2025, Avelo will launch service from two major hub airports, a leading city in Florida and a popular destination in New England. Each of those routes will originate from Tweed New Haven Airport (HVN), the tiny southern Connecticut airport that has become the young airline’s biggest growth center.
Meanwhile, Avelo is also expanding its fledgling international footprint, with nonstop service from Hartford to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic – an announcement that comes less than a week after the airline launched transfer revealed its plans to serve the Caribbean destination for the first time from North Carolina.
In all, it’s an expansion of Avelo’s five routes – all from Connecticut, a state that’s become central to its growth plans, not to mention its hometown. one of the hottest battles in the American aviation industry.
“We love Connecticut and are excited to continue expanding our presence here,” Avelo CEO Andrew Levy said in a statement Monday.

DFW and Detroit are both major hubs for major network airlines – DFW is the headquarters for American Airlines and Detroit is the core hub for Delta Air Lines. However, Avelo won’t have any direct competition to worry about on those routes; New Haven will be a brand new destination for each of those airports.
It’s a similar story for Jacksonville and Portland, each a popular destination for tourists on vacation or visiting friends or relatives.

Grown in Connecticut and abroad
Overall, this latest New Haven expansion by Avelo gives Avelo 39 direct destinations from the small regional airport – a base for which Avelo is the sole carrier, at least until Breeze Airways comes out. launched its own New Haven service this week.
Internationally, Avelo’s new Punta Cana service launched Monday to expand its budding international footprint.
By next spring, the airline will fly five direct international routes, including three from Hartford: Punta Cana, Cancun International Airport (CUN) and Sangster International Airport (MBJ) in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
Avelo said last week it would also fly to Punta Cana and Montego Bay from Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU).
