Barry Keoghan looks back on starring in Saltburn with Jacob Elordi: “How can you not be haunted by that man?”


As a rule, Barry Keoghan try not to judge your characters—even when they are at their most devious and murderous, e.g. salt burnby Oliver Quick. He can even justify all the murders on the dance floor, tellingly Vanity fair of co-stars Jacob Elordi: “I mean, how can you not be obsessed with that man?”

The 32-year-old Irish actor was recently benched VF‘S Scene selection video series in which he delves into key moments in his burgeoning career. That includes Keoghan’s Oscar-nominated supporting performance in Goddesses of Inisherin. “It came at the right time. I needed something that fit the scope of the show,” he recalls, “a character who was a little gentler, a little more innocent, and a little more naive—no deviant attitudes or motivations. ” One of Keoghan’s most “heartbreaking” scenes in the film is when his sad character Dominic tries—and fails—to romance an islander, Siobhán (played by Kerry Condon). After she rejected him, he sighed, “Well, that dream is over.”

Keoghan had a breakout year in 2017 with his one-two punch Christopher Nolan‘S Dunkirk And The killing of a sacred deer, from the “genius” filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos. Revisiting a scene from the latter film in which Keoghan’s teenage character Martin wreaks havoc on a family led by Keoghan. Colin Farrell And Nicole Kidman, he just laughed. “I mean, look at it. It was like me sitting there with pasta in my shorts in front of Nicole Kidman,” Keoghan said. “Yes, it will stick to me.”

Another highlight? Confront his real-life friend Robert Pattinson IN Batman. “He’s a great actor, isn’t he?” said Keoghan, who added that although he did research on hyenas to perfect his vocal style for his role as “the invisible Prisoner of Arkham”—a heavy rumors to become the future Joker—that distinctive chuckle is all his own. “I remember actually laughing, it was so scary.”
