BeatKing’s Daughter Shows Off His Playful Energy at His Funeral
On Thursday (August 30), two weeks later Justin ‘BeatKing’ Riley‘s death, family and friends held a funeral for him. In addition to celebrities such as Bun B, BeatKing’s eldest daughter, Jayla, read the eulogy.
A video of Jayla channeling her late father’s playful energy in her speech went viral overnight. As previously reported, the renowned Houston producer and DJ passed away on August 15 at the age of 39.
BeatKing’s manager and representative at the time of his death, Tasha Felder, later disclosed to the press that he died of pulmonary embolism. Felder was also present at BeatKing’s funeral, along with his two surviving daughters, Jayla and his sister Kayla.
BeatKing’s daughter pokes fun at her late father
According to the Houston Chronicle, the producer’s funeral was held at the Bayou City Events Center in his hometown, Houston, Texas.
Jayla began her eulogy by introducing herself as BeatKing’s oldest “and most beloved” daughter. She laughed with the crowd and then explained why she wasn’t crying. Meanwhile, her younger sister Kayla stood nearby, wiping her face.
“When I talk about my dad, a lot of people expect me to start crying and stuff, but he’s too dumb, too lame, too annoying, to just cry about him. He doesn’t want me to cry about him. I always make sure I smile because I know that’s what he would want me to do. You see, a lot of you know BeatKing, a lot of you know Justin, but I know someone that only two people on this Earth know, and that’s Dad.”
She described her late father as “the dumbest person on the planet” and once again teased him. Jayla recalled how her father tried to suggest a barber when she needed money to get her hair done.
But BeatKing’s daughter really had the audience laughing when she told a joke about her dad’s love for Whataburger.
“I know we are all saddened by his passing, but I personally feel like no one is sadder than Whataburger. Without him, Whataburger would probably be out of business.”

More details about the manufacturer’s memorial service
Photos of the memorial service, available on Getty Images, show his loved ones smiling as they pose next to large posters of him. There was also a balloon release featuring more than 50 black balloons. An urn containing Justin’s ashes, a plaque with the song ‘Then Leave’ and his favourite sneakers were among the displays.
As mentioned, Bun B also took the mic to talk about Justin Riley’s impact on the city through his music. Other local artists who spoke included Michael Watts and Mon’ro. Popular radio host Kiotti Brown and DJ Csharp also delivered eulogies.
However, it is unclear whether BeatKing’s girlfriend, Talameshia, spoke at the memorial. She reposted footage from the ceremony and a flyer for the ceremony on her personal page. Earlier this month, she broke her silence about Justin’s death by sharing a compilation of throwback videos with lengthy captions about how she was processing the news.
