Beyond the Steam feels just like the original Otome

Fan disc for otome games are difficult things. The audience is both more limited and more selective. There are expectations that perhaps you will learn more about the characters you love. You hope to have a chance at romance with people who didn’t have a route in the original. It’s basically built on the foundation. This will therefore limit the people who might be interested in the title. Steam Prison: Beyond Steam In some ways, this is actually a well-made sequel, with an engaging story, but I also can’t help but feel that it doesn’t deliver well when it comes to building on the existing romances. yes or finally romance with Saxony.

To start, Steam Prison: Beyond Steam unlike discs for fans of otome games like Virche Evermore -EpiC: Lycoris- or Radiant story: Flaunting. In both of those examples, you get additional ending stories set after the best endings of different character arcs. There are also additional love interests, within that Radiant story: Flaunting‘s case involves two stories that are quite interesting for the supporting actors. With this Steam prison follow along, you essentially have two paths and no single, long-winded plot to any of the love interests.

The Cainabel story builds on the Grand Ending from the first game. If you are coming Steam Prison: Beyond Steam without having the original otome game, there is good news! There is an option to look through the summary to find out what happened. I did, because I never really went for that ending in the first game. I chose Adage and Eltcreed, then decided that was it. Because of that decision, our heroine Cyrus doesn’t form the relationship you’d expect with her love interests in the original game. (Of course, you can change her name.) Since the events of the Grand Ending mean that many of the problems that existed in society before no longer exist, there is no division between from the Uplands like her or those from the Deep. The new legislature also means that people are working together and are not limited in who they can or cannot associate with. But since we didn’t get to meet (and romance) back then, we now have a new opportunity to build relationships with characters like Adage, Eltcreed, Fin, Ulrik, Yune, Jevite, and Jereme.

It’s a very well written and executed story! We’re seeing people interacting in different ways, which I appreciate. There is also a focus on the investigation around Cainabel, a new area discovered after passing through the Depths. I still like Cyrus as a heroine, and single guys are interesting candidates for love. The art is also still pretty great and I love the design direction for the characters and how it really feels like a steampunk classic.

The downside is, Steam Prison: Beyond Steam doesn’t feel like an otome game like the original. This is not entirely surprising. I had an idea that this would happen, because Steam prison talks more about the story of the divide between Heights and Depths, dealing with government and authority figures I disagree with, and seeing different aspects of world society depending on who you let Cyrus pursue. In this fan disc, it’s essentially a single storyline with your favorite fan events occasionally occurring at certain points. Said moments may not feel entirely romantic. So this is kind of the expected progression and approach, but I admit to being a little disappointed that there isn’t the same weight and variety with separate routes and friend-based branching storylines. choose love.

The other main attraction is for Steam Prison: Beyond Steam is the new Saxony route in A New Theory. I loved Saxony in the original otome game. I want to date him. Unlike the other mode, this mode continues the story from the first entry, but adapts it so that Saxony is an option after Cyrus finds himself living in the abyss. In some ways, that’s exactly what I wanted! I appreciate the art and the character is still great. However, it’s shorter than the love paths in that section, and also feels a bit rushed. The pacing was off, which affected my enjoyment of it and made me feel like I didn’t know him as well as other characters like Eltcreed.

Oh, and there’s Petit Prison. It’s a mini game with characters. Basically, you look at scenes and need to find the differences. It’s okay, but I don’t feel like playing it more than once.

Story about Steam Prison: Beyond Steam Going into this, you probably know that this otome fan disc will be very similar to the original game. That means romance won’t be the main focus and a story will go into world-building and perhaps make a difference in some way. The characterizations were on point and it was nice to see familiar faces again. I just wish it had more romance, with more specific routes for the characters, especially Saxony because this is his moment.

Steam Prison: Beyond Steam available for Nintendo Switch and PC.
