Biden Will Host Lunch to Celebrate Black Excellence

President Joe Biden will host a ‘Celebration of Black Excellence Luncheon’ on the South Lawn. This will be the first event of its kind to be held at the White House!

The White House exclusively told The Shade Room that the event was meant to honor the black community’s immense contributions to America’s foundation.

Additionally, Stephen Benjamin, Biden’s senior adviser and director of the White House Office of Public Engagement, said the event reflects efforts from day one by the president and vice president to honor Black Americans.

“We are thrilled to host the first-ever White House Celebration of Black Excellence. This is another example of the work that President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have done since Day One to honor community through actions that not only lower barriers to opportunity but also promote better pathways to excellence for Black Americans across the country. Thanks to the efforts of the Biden-Harris Administration, Black unemployment has fallen to a record low, Black net worth has increased by 60% since the pandemic, and Black entrepreneurs are launching small businesses at a rate not seen in 30 years,” said Benjamin.

The ‘Celebration of Black Excellence Luncheon’ follows President Biden’s second Juneteenth celebration in June. Additionally, President Biden’s event takes place during one of DC’s most anticipated annual events, the Congressional Black Caucus’ annual Legislative Conference. The President is also scheduled to speak at CBCF’s 2024 Phoenix Awards Dinner on Saturday, September 14.

‘Brunch in Celebration of Black Excellence’ will welcome big names to the South Lawn. Monica will take the stage to perform, while film producer and actress Marsai Martin will deliver a keynote address. Their guest list will also include CBCF members and black leaders in entertainment, social media, political advocacy and the private sector.

The event will be themed with an all-white dress code, and the White House said the atmosphere is expected to reflect “the Sunday dinner that nourishes the Black American community across the country.”

The White House partners with Trell Thomas

President Biden is cooperate with Trell Thomasfounder and CEO of The Black Excellence Brunch, to host this inaugural event. In an exclusive statement to TSR, Thomas said the ‘Black Excellence Luncheon’ would be influenced by his upbringing.

“The Black Excellence Luncheon is my love letter to the community that shaped me during the years I spent around my mother’s kitchen table in South Carolina. Those Sunday dinners shared with family, friends, church members, and neighbors inspired me with all the beautiful melanin in the room. It gave me the confidence to make space for everyone. While Friday’s guest list is a little longer, I am grateful to be able to do this in partnership with the White House and the President, who has influenced black excellence in all its forms.”
