Biden’s Hollywood fundraiser brings in George Clooney, Julia Roberts and $30 million
Some of Hollywood’s biggest names gathered at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Saturday night, but the event wasn’t an awards show or entertainment industry event. Instead, the President Joe Biden took the stage for a record-setting fundraiser for his presidential campaign.
Unlike most events that attract the likes of Julia Roberts, George ClooneyAnd Barbra Streisand, there was no red carpet filled with photographers, nor were there any logo-emblazoned iterations. This time, the stars gave most of the spotlight to the president and former president Barack Obamawho took the stage for a 40-minute chat with the talk show host Jimmy Kimmelwho is said to be a stronger critic of Joe Biden’s opponent Donald Trump more than the other two men combined.
Presidential opening acts included Ocean-famous couple Clooney and Roberts, who kicked off the night. Streisand then introduced the First Lady Jill Biden; Black Jack And Sheryl Lee Ralph provide musical performances; And Jason Bateman And Kathryn Hahn invited Kimmel, who moderated the evening.
After joking that “I was told I was introduced by Batman and not Bateman,” Kimmel brought Obama and Biden on stage to rapturous cheers from the audience, who—according to LA Times—bought tickets for prices ranging from $250 (for the nosebleed part) to $500,000 (“for a ticket package that included luxury seats, photos with both presidents, and a VIP party”).
Mindy Kaling, Jeff RossAnd Jordan Peele was among the ticket holders to an event that raised the $30 million mark for Biden’s campaign.
