Blizzard has added World of Warcraft’s infamous horse to Diablo IV (and some other inspired cosmetics)
With World of Warcraft‘S The War Within The expansion is scheduled to release on August 26, 2024 (August 22 for Early Access), which makes sense. Diablo IV There will be some sort of crossover. Blizzard Entertainment IPs are no strangers to these kinds of collaborations. If you’ve bought Diablo IVyour most expensive version then you will get an exclusive stand in World of Warcraft. So, seeing Pegasus appear in Diablo IV not the craziest thing i’ve ever seen
It’s unbelievable that it’s in another Blizzard game. While plowing through dungeons in World of Warcraft I was chatting with a friend who has been playing MMORPGs since their inception. They told me about the controversy surrounding this particular pony (known to the community as Sparklepony), and that it was one of Blizzard’s first MTXs (microtransactions) in the game. They laughed a lot when I mentioned its price in Diablo IVthat is $25. Originally, the price of this stand was around $15. World of Warcraftand have Now available at T&W Trading Post.
If you are unfamiliar with the history of this horse, many consumers believe that it killed StarCraft. There are some opinions that this stand has outsold StarCraft 2: Wings Liberty’s story is both amazing and incredibly sad.
But The Celestial Steed isn’t the only thing included. Diablo IV. Skins inspired by Kael’Thas, Varian Wrynn, Sylvanas Windrunner and The War WithinXal’atath’s enemies have also entered the shop. Seeing any kind of Blood Elf related cosmetics makes me foam at the mouth (I understand the type World of Warcraft I’m a player, and one who happens to only play some Elf types), so I used the free currency I had saved up and bought the Kael’Thas cosmetic for the Sorcerer. I liked the glowing eyes and the weird headgear that came with it, and decided that this was my look for Season 5. With just enough money left from that purchase, I dipped into my reserves and bought the Xal’atath cosmetic for the Necromancer. I dunno, I guess I just like flying orbs.
Oddly enough, this is the kind of crossover I’d like to see in Blizzard games. Mainly because, except Observe (StarCraft (Not counting, it’s pretty dead at this point) all of Blizzard’s games follow the same design philosophy of big shoulder armor and the developer’s established portfolio of creating fun rules that should have gone out of style by the mid-00s, but still didn’t. And I appreciate Blizzard’s dedication to sticking to what makes many of their designs unique in a fun but cheesy way.
I’ll be clear that I don’t always like Blizzard’s designs. I like Warcraft III, but not for its visuals. And I’m turned off World of Warcraft for the longest time because of its over-the-top design. But now I see the appeal. Related to Lord Diablo series, I like how it’s toned down, even if a lot of the designs are greatly enhanced by Diablo III. (This is my guilty pleasure.)
And I guess I can appreciate that they included that starry horse too. Diablo IV There’s something bitterly ironic about all of this. I wonder how many people will buy this horse a second time, and whether Blizzard Entertainment knows about its notoriety.
Diablo IV Available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Computerand Ship of Hate The expansion release date is October 8, 2024.
