Carrie Underwood will perform at Trump’s inauguration
Back in 2017, Donald Trump has struggled to find any big names to perform at his inauguration, and his team is said to have been turned down by stars, including Elton John, Garth Brooks, And Celine Dion. For round two, Trump’s outreach was a bit more successful, and in addition to his regular group of favorites, the issues will include a previously apolitical pop country star.
On Monday, in a statement with Everyday monsters, Carrie Underwood said her choice to sing at the inauguration was due to her desire to unite the nation. “I love our country and am honored to be asked to sing at the inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event,” she said. “I humbly answer the call at a time when we must all come together in solidarity and look to the future.”
The president-elect’s transition team told the Daily Beast that the country music star will sing “America the Beautiful.” She will be accompanied by the Armed Forces Choir and the U.S. Naval Academy Glee Club.
2019, American Idol alum told Guardian that she wanted to avoid public discussion of her politics. “I try to stay away from politics if possible, at least in public, because no one wins,” she said, adding that she feels frustrated when some songs are interpreted as political statements . “It’s crazy. Underwood will be joined on stage by classical music singers Christopher D. The Village People explained their decision to perform in a statement on their official Facebook page. “We know this won’t be fun for some of you to hear, however we believe that the music should be performed without regard to politics,” it reads. “Our song ‘YMCA’ is a global anthem that hopes to help bring the country together after a chaotic and divisive campaign in which our preferred candidate lost. So we believe it’s time to unite the country through music.”
