What is Celebrity Cruises’ newest ship?
Celebrity’s newest cruise ship is Celebrity Ascent, which, as noted above, debuted in December 2023. At 141,420 gross tons, it’s also the largest cruise ship in Celebrity’s fleet (tied with the slightly older Celebrity Beyond, which weighs in at 141,420 gross tons).
What is Celebrity Cruises’ oldest ship?
The oldest Celebrity cruise ship is the Celebrity Millennium. It debuted in 2000, right at the turn of the millennium (hence the name). The Celebrity Millennium was the first of four Millennium Class ships launched in the early 2000s, and is now the oldest ship in the line’s large fleet.
What new Celebrity Cruises ships are coming?
Celebrity Cruises is currently ordering a new cruise ship: the 3,260-passenger Celebrity Xcel. It is scheduled to debut in November 2025.
At 141,420 gross tons, Celebrity Xcel will be the fifth ship in Celebrity’s Edge-class series, which will debut in 2018. The first four ships in the series are Celebrity Edge, Celebrity Apex, Celebrity Beyond and Celebrity Ascent.
The Edge-class ships are being built at the giant Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France.
Which Celebrity Cruises’ newest ship is available for booking?
Celebrity Xcel is Celebrity Cruises’ newest ship, and you can book it right now. While Celebrity Xcel hasn’t set sail yet, its first sailings scheduled for November 2025 are already on sale, as are future sailings through April 2026.
Celebrity Xcel is expected to take its first winter cruise to the Caribbean from Fort Lauderdale. Port Everglades.
What type of ship is Celebrity Cruises’ newest ship?
The Edge Class is Celebrity Cruises’ newest class of ships. Currently in development, the class will consist of at least five ships.
The first ship in the Edge class, Celebrity Edge, debuted in 2018. The other three ships in the series — Celebrity Apex, Celebrity Beyond and Celebrity Ascent — are set to set sail in 2020, 2022 and 2023.
The last ship in the series currently on order, Celebrity Xcel, is scheduled to be launched in November 2025.
The Edge Class ships are not only the newest ships in the Celebrity fleet, but also the most advanced in the Celebrity fleet. Designed to carry 2,908 to 3,260 passengers per ship in double occupancy, each ship features innovative new features like Infinite Veranda cabins with all-glass exterior walls.
Another innovative feature of the Edge Class ships is the 90-ton platform along the side of the ship called the Magic Carpet. As large as a tennis court, the platform juts out from the side of the ship and can be raised and lowered to serve a variety of functions — from a waterfront bar to a space shuttle boarding area.
What is the difference between Celebrity Cruises’ new and old ships?
Newer Celebrity Cruises ships are typically larger than older Celebrity ships—in some cases, up to 35% larger. As a result, they have more room for onboard attractions and venues than the line’s older ships.
For example, on Celebrity’s newest and largest Edge Class ships, Celebrity Ascent and Celebrity Beyond, you’ll find expansive resort areas within the suites called The Retreat, which aren’t available on the smaller Edge Class ships or on other older ships in the Celebrity fleet. These suite areas feature a two-story sundeck with a hot tub, loungers, and private cabanas that are reserved for suite guests only.
Celebrity Ascent and Celebrity Beyond also have 179 more cabins than their Edge Class sister ships, which each have 1,467 cabins. As a result, they can accommodate 3,260 passengers in double occupancy. That’s up from 2,910 passengers in double occupancy on Celebrity Apex and 2,908 passengers in double occupancy on Celebrity Edge.
By contrast, Celebrity’s oldest Millennium Class ships only carry around 2,100 passengers in two-person configurations, so they have a more intimate feel, at least among relatively large, mass-market ships.
That makes them a good choice for those who want to try Celebrity but don’t want to travel with the crowds. The oldest ships in the Celebrity fleet therefore appeal to a group of Celebrity fans who prefer more privacy on a cruise ship and don’t mind giving up some onboard amenities to get it. They’re also often cheaper to sail per day.

Celebrity’s three very small ships based in the Galapagos have the most intimate feel. They’re like little hotels floating on water.
Note that all Celebrity ships undergo regular scheduled renovations and upgrades every few years, so even the oldest Celebrity cruise ships have newer carpets, updated furniture, modern cabin decor, and other updates. In many cases, they’ve also renovated entire restaurants and bars over the years, with concepts that first debuted on newer ships.
