Choose Your Career Path in Monster Jam Showdown – PlayStation.Blog

Hello, Monster Jam fans! We know you’ve been waiting a while, but the most action-packed motorsport event on four wheels is coming to PlayStation in a whole new look. I’m Federico Spada, Game Director of Monster Jam Showdown, and I’m here to make the wait even sweeter by taking you through our career mode, our single-player campaign also known as the Showdown Tour.

Showdown Tour will be the backbone of your journey, with over 130 events that combine speed and skill. This diversity was a key design element from the start. Developing a game with Monster Jam trucks is far different than working on any other racing title, as it is a unique sport that extends the competition beyond pure racing. When we designed Showdown Tour, our goal was to leverage this uniqueness to create the most tailored gaming experience and celebrate the strengths of each player. To do this, we came up with a sandbox-like design where you will be free to enjoy the events as you please, in any order.

You will compete in 8 different game modes and explore 3 original environments.

To accommodate different play styles, we’ve grouped events into three categories: Stunt, Short, and Racing. Once you’ve played a certain event, you’ll unlock new events in the same category as the one you just played. This way, you’ll constantly find new challenges that are similar to your preferences, but you’ll still get a lot of variety since events in the same category will include multiple game modes and take place in all three of the original environments we’ve developed.

Importantly, Showdown Tour locations are wild and unusual, perfect for pushing your Monster Jam trucks to the limit and unleashing their full power beyond what you’ll see in live events. Whether it’s stadiums, outdoor arenas, or actual racetracks, the environments will put those mechanical beasts to the test, from the glaciers of Alaska to the scorching deserts of Death Valley and the forests of Colorado. In our free-flowing approach, you’ll be racing across these wild lands from the first minutes of the game simply by navigating a map with all the events, which gradually pop up as you progress. For example, after completing a Freestyle event in Colorado, you might find a new Freestyle competition in another area of the map as well as a different game mode, such as a Best Trick match.

Showdown events are epic boss battles that unlock new Monster Jam trucks and new paint jobs

By winning the same event category, you’ll collect medals that will give you access to Showdown Events, which are special challenges that unlock more difficult competitions in the same category. In Showdown Events, you’ll have to prove yourself as the rightful owner of some of the most iconic Monster Jam trucks by competing against their previous drivers. If you succeed, you’ll become the official driver of that truck and it will be added to your collection. But be careful – Showdown Events aren’t just simple 1v1 races; to win, you’ll not only have to come in first, but also please the crowd by putting on a spectacular run. That’s why you’ll see the layout of the tracks change every lap in these races and will find more destructible objects or bigger ramps to speed up your run.

This design will give you complete freedom to decide at any time whether to progress within the same category by playing the hardest events or challenge yourself in something else. In one case, you will maximize your skills in your favorite game modes and unlock the associated trucks. However, to complete your career and collect all 66 vehicles* and over 140 paint jobs, you will have to master all categories. I am sure that both kids and adults will try their best to have every fan-favorite Monster Jam truck in their own collection.

Think of the Showdown Tour as the elite Monster Jam competition. Only the best trucks make it to the championship, which pushes both trucks and drivers to their limits in a series of extreme, unconventional clashes that expand on the action of real-life Monster Jam events. By defeating the best trucks on the planet, you’ll advance to victory in the Showdown Tour and ultimately become the ultimate Monster Jam Champion of the toughest Monster Jam competition ever.

If you think you have what it takes, get ready to accelerate and start your career because Monster Jam Showdown will launch on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on August 29, 2024, with Early Access available from August 26, 2024.

*40 trucks will be included in the base game and 26 trucks will be available via free or premium DLC
