Crash Team Rumble was reportedly in development for Switch but was canceled

In a new one Video ‘DidYouKnowGaming’game historian Liam Robertson has clarified ‘Crash Bandicoot 5‘ as well as the Switch version of Crash Rumble Team.

The full video is worth watching, but if you want a quick recap, Toys for Bob was reportedly planning a Switch version of Crash Team Rumble. It was said to be in development but was canceled by Activision due to the game’s poor reception on other platforms.

For Crash 5, it will feature Crash Twinsanity‘Devil Academy’ and the plot will explore the crossover with Spyro the Dragon – featuring the return of Crash’s main antagonist ‘Uka Uka’. Both Crash and Spyro were intended to be playable protagonists, and the team considered making them playable both individually and together (Crash could even ride on Spyro’s back).

Toys for Bob had only been in development for a few months before Activision canceled Crash 5. Unfortunately, this decision was made when Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time failed to meet internal “high sales targets.” Former employees said not having a Nintendo Switch version at launch was a “grave mistake.”

Would you like to see Crash Bandicoot (and Spyro) return in some way now that Microsoft owns Activision Blizzard? Let us know in the comments.
