Darktide brings gritty co-op to PlayStation with improvements to PS5 Pro on December 3 – PlayStation.Blog

Hi everybody! My name is Juan Martinez, executive producer at Fatshark and a member of the Warhammer 40,000: Darktide team. I want to welcome all PlayStation players to the four-player cooperative gritty experience we’ve created.

Today we opened access Warhammer 40,000: Dark Tide for PS5 players who pre-ordered the Imperial Edition. We’re extremely excited to announce that the game will be available to all PS5 players on December 3rd.

Darktide originally launched on PC in November 2022, and since then we’ve worked tirelessly to expand the game, including nine major additions and over 25 content updates and improvements. The release on PS5 coincides with the release of our 10th major free update: Grim Protocols. And we have even more for you in the years to come!

Fast-paced, Fatshark-style combat

We’ve been dreaming of creating a game set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe for many years, and with Darktide we’ve made this dream a reality. Darktide is a four-player co-op action game in which you play as a condemned prisoner – a Denizen – serving the Inquisition to reclaim the city of Tertium, which has fallen into the hands of Chaos. To survive, you’ll switch between melee and ranged combat, a hybrid system we’ve worked hard to perfect.

Bringing Warhammer 40,000: Darktide to PS5 and PS5 Pro

While developing Darktide for PS5, we focused on delivering the best possible experience for players. We’ve spent a lot of time and effort adapting the game to the PS5 hardware. PS5 users have the freedom to choose between Performance Mode (running at 60FPS on 1440p resolution) and Quality Mode (running at 30FPS on 4K resolution). For those using PS5 Pro, we’ve harnessed PSSR technology to help Warhammer 40,000: Darktide run at a sustained 60FPS at 4K resolution.

We also spent quite a bit of time with the DualSense wireless controller’s adaptive triggers and haptic feedback features. Our team wanted the DualSense controller to feel like a natural extension of the Warhammer 40,000: Darktide experience. From the Boltgun’s iconic explosive bullets, to the point-blank precision of the energy-based Lasgun or the Force Staff’s psychological power, each weapon offers a unique experience whenever you change equipment.

Automatic weapons have never felt as good as using the vibration effects and haptic triggers of the DualSense controller. Feel the trigger vibrate with every shot, while a rumble resonates inside the DualSense controller. As your ammo count gets lower, the trigger feels more intense, so you always know when you’re running low. The feeling of the Chainsword’s blades spinning and the tactile feedback of the blade cutting through the flesh of heretics and demons is a pure and macabre delight. We can’t wait to see your reaction to these features when they launch on December 3.

Unlock your potential

To help you feel at home on Tertium, we’ve included a ton of options in the character creator so you can fine-tune your Denier’s appearance in-game, including class, appearance, history their background and voice. We want to empower players to become part of this world and its conflict in more personal ways.

Each class has its own complex talent tree, allowing you to further customize your play style between the three main domains (or subclasses) and any classes in between. We’ve also expanded your freedom of choice with improvements to the Catalog, allowing you to gain experience in each of the 40+ weapon lines you want to master.

A game that is constantly evolving

December 3 is both the game’s launch day on PlayStation and the release of our 10th major update: Grim Protocols brings a ton of new content. Here’s a glimpse of what we have in store!

We’re introducing a new endgame mode called Havoc, where the most seasoned operators test their mettle. Get ready to face difficult challenges! But first, you must master Tertium.

A new quest will be added to our list of over 20 quests, challenging the Denier to explore the Carnival, a popular entertainment area where you go to relax a bit and have lots of fun illegal entertainment.

Three new weapon lines will be added, allowing you to tear through waves of enemies with the devastating power of the Two-Handed Force and Power Sword as well as the Ogryn Heavy Stubber.

Stay tuned to our official PS5 coverage to stay up to date with all the content coming in 2025. Warhammer 40,000: Darktide officially launches on PS5 on December 3. Welcome to Tertium, Rejects , we hope you overcome the challenges ahead. For the Emperor!
