Dead Cells Designer Reveals Beat ‘Em Up ‘Tenjutsu’ And We Really Hope It Converts

Publisher Devolver Digital and developer Deadnight Games have revealed Tenjustu, a stylish beat ’em up roguelike from Dead cells Designer Sébastien Benard.

We don’t have a release date for this one yet, and it’s not even confirmed for Switch at the time of writing, but my god, it looks so good that we just had to highlight it. The trailer showcases some adorable anime cutscenes followed by engaging beat ’em up gameplay backed by stunning pixel art.

When discussing disclosure (thank you, European gamers), Benard said “In short, Tenjutsu is like John Wick or Jackie Chan if they were a fighter. An action-packed melee combat system where you take on multiple enemies at once, filled with fighting opportunities in a split second My idea is to make combat more dynamic in Dead Cells by adding opportunities, fighting space management and crowd control to create situations ‘one against many’ indeed.”

Sounds good to us! We’ll stay tuned for news on a potential Switch release (or ‘Switch 2’, whoaaaa now), but for now, let’s take a look at a few screens of the game.

Do you hope Tenjustu comes to Switch? What do you make of the reveal trailer? Let us know what you think by commenting below.
