Directive 8020 Coming to PS5 in 2025 – PlayStation.Blog

I’m incredibly excited to announce Directive 8020 – a brand new sci-fi survival horror adventure game coming in 2025 from Supermassive Games.

Directive 8020 is a brand new sci-fi survival horror adventure game with the immersive cinematic gameplay you expect from a Supermassive game but now with more features and player autonomy than ever before.

Directive 8020 Coming to PS5 in 2025

So, let’s start with the Story. Earth is dying and humanity’s time is running out. Twelve light years away, the planet Tau Ceti f offers a glimmer of hope, but when the colony ship Cassiopeia crashes into the planet, the crew soon realizes they are not alone.

Hunted by an alien creature that can mimic its prey, the crew of the Cassiopeia must defeat their pursuers to return home safely. As they fight to survive, they are faced with their most difficult choice yet: to save themselves, they must risk the lives of everyone on Earth.

Of course, since this is a super-sized horror game – things won’t go according to plan for our vanguard!

Throughout the game, you will explore the suffocating, stranded wreck of our scout ship, the Cassiopeia. A dark, creepy place filled with terror. Our game draws inspiration from a variety of sci-fi horror films: from Alien to Event Horizon. Like many of those films, this game explores the theme of sci-fi horror. We are adrift in space, insignificant and unimportant compared to the vastness of space. The universe itself is uncaring and uncomfortable.

In space, death takes many forms.

We also lean into body horror. Our alien entity has a bizarre design: warped flesh, bubbling, pustule-like eyes, and a polymorphous shape. Worse yet, it can regenerate its body to mimic any member of your crew. You have to decide who to trust in a world where anyone could be a dangerous alien impostor.

Throughout the game, you’ll take control of five crew members and play as each one multiple times – their fate is in your hands as each crew member under your control will live or die based on your actions. This is a branching horror adventure where your decisions shape the ultimate outcome of the story. But it won’t be easy – for the first time in a Dark Pictures game, you’ll face real-time threats.

Intelligent aliens, Hunters/Killers, will hunt you down and kill you if you let your guard down. This is pure “treetop” gameplay, completely new to Dark Pictures. To survive, you’ll need to hide, dodge, and outmaneuver a variety of monsters. There’s no more freedom to explore – if you fail to stay sane, it could spell the end for your character.

We’ve completely redesigned the character’s movement controls to support stealth. You’ll need to adapt to each new threat you face. There are different stages of what we call ‘mimicry’ in the game, from humanoid characters that act normally but aren’t quite human, to a full-blown hunter form where all attempts at mimicry are abandoned in favor of brute force.

The Dark Pictures DNA is still there – in fact, everything you love about Dark Pictures is still here, from the branching storylines to the impossible choices. But as you’ll see, we’ve redesigned, polished, and amplified our gameplay from the ground up to lean more heavily into the sci-fi survival horror genre.

And finally, like our previous games, we’re incredibly proud to add another amazing star to our cast. In Directive 8020, we have Lashana Lynch directing. You’ll recognize Lashana from 007 films like No Time to Die, The Woman King, Captain Marvel and Bob Marley: One Love. Lashana plays Brianna Young, the pilot of Cassiopeia. She’s one of Earth’s best astronauts and the survival of her crew, and possibly Earth itself, is partly in her hands – and yours depending on how you play the game!

Stay tuned to this space for more information on Directive 8020, we look forward to you playing it in 2025
