Disney Cruise Line Unveils Marvel Theme for Disney Destiny

Prepare vibranium. If you have been eagerly waiting to hear how Disney Cruise Line Disney will be bringing Marvel characters to life in a “Heroes and Villains” theme on the new Disney Destiny cruise ship, so get ready: Today is the day.

On Thursday, the line revealed details about the new 144,000-ton ship’s Grand Hall atrium, its Marvel-themed lounge and the inspiration behind the décor in the luxurious Tower Suite, located in the ship’s funnel. It was the third in a series of recent announcements from the line.

You’ll also find out which Marvel hero will be appearing at the tail end of the ship. (My “Spider-Man senses” are on full blast, I’d say.)

As soon as passengers board Disney Destiny, they’ll feel like they’re traveling to Wakanda, the fictional country that’s home to King T’Challa (Black Panther) and vibranium, a rare (and also fictional) metal ore with incredible power.

Inspired by the costumes in the film, the Grand Hall lobby, which welcomes passengers aboard the ship, will feature metal-adorned pillars designed to look like Wakanda’s signature stacked armor and jewelry.

Above, colorful lighting effects will emanate from a vibranium-inspired lighting fixture, and a Black Panther statue will stand guard.

The cruise line sees the Grand Hall as a “living theater” where passengers can interact with a variety of heroes and villains throughout each voyage.

Nearby, Saga — a two-story entertainment venue also inspired by Wakanda — will serve as a hub for family activities during the day before transforming into an adults-only venue at night.

Doctor Strange themed lounge

The Sanctum, a new Doctor Strange-inspired lounge, focuses on magic and mystical artifacts. A circular mirror behind the bar is reminiscent of Doctor Strange’s New York Sanctum, and visitors can expect plenty of surprises.

In addition to hosting activities throughout each trip, the center space also serves alcoholic beverages and coffee.

A Tower Suite fit for Iron Man

When Disney decided to take over one of the chimneys on Disney wishes — the first ship in Desired classof which Disney Destiny and Disney Treasure are also a part — with luxury suiteCruise line fans were hooked. There’s only one per Wish Class ship (some ships in other classes will soon get one), and each has a different theme, making them super exclusive—and super expensive.

The Destiny Tower Suite is themed after “Iron Man,” with design and decor inspired by Tony Stark’s industrial design. Located at the front of the ship’s funnel, this unique apartment-style accommodation will offer stunning views through two-story windows, nearly 2,000 square feet of space, and accommodate up to eight passengers.

Mechanical elements and armor-inspired decor will be balanced by soft, inviting finishes. Features include designated areas for eating, sleeping and playing, as well as other perks like a fully equipped kitchen and private elevator in the cabin. Another perk of booking a Tower Suite is access to a private lounge and pool reserved for suite guests only.

Spider on the stern

No Disney cruise ship would be complete without a character adorning the stern. For Disney Destiny, Disney Cruise Line chose Spider-Man — the first time a Marvel character has been chosen for this honor.

This larger-than-life sculpture will feature Spider-Man and his Spider-Bots, one of whom is making a good-natured, if somewhat random, effort to decorate the back of the ship as the others prepare to hit the beach.

Marvel’s Favorite Characters Return

Marvel-led passenger favorites from sister ships Disney Wish and Disney Treasure will return on Disney Destiny.

The Worlds of Marvel restaurant will return to present “Marvel Celebration of Heroes: Groot Remix,” which will debut on Disney Treasure in late 2024. During the dinner, Groot plans a special birthday party for his friend, Rocket Raccoon, both of whom made their debut in “Guardians of the Galaxy.” Expect music and trivia to round out the offerings. (Due to the longer journey, Treasure will alternate between Groot and Experience dinner at Marvel Universe’s “Quantum Encounter” found on Disney Wish.)

Marvel Super Hero Academy will also return to the Oceaneer Club, where kids ages 3 to 10 can learn how to be a superhero, complete with training from real Avengers characters.

Previous Disclosure

On Tuesday, the cruise line details released about themed locations and cabins inspired by heroes from “Fantasia,” “The Incredibles” and “Hercules.” Disney Destiny also revealed that there will be a “Lion King”-themed restaurant, “Pride Lands: Feast of The Lion King.”

Fourth Revelation offered a closer look at the villains, including a piano lounge modeled after Cruella de Vil; Cask and Cannon, a “Pirates of the Caribbean”-themed pub; and the fun but haunted Haunted Mansion Parlor — reminiscent of the fan-favorite Haunted Mansion ride at Disney parks.

The cruise line also shared that new villain meet-and-greets and other character appearances — including a trivia game and an interrupted dance party — will feature Maleficent, Hades, Cruella de Vil, Captain Hook, Mr. Smee, Oogie Boogie, Captain Jack Sparrow, Bruno, and Loki.

Starting in late 2025, the 2,508-passenger Disney Destiny is expected to begin sailing from Port Everglades in Fort LauderdaleFlorida. This will be the first new Disney cruise ship to depart from a home port other than Disney Cruise Line’s home port at Port Canaveral, near Orlando. Specific itinerary details have not yet been shared.
