Donald Trump Calls America a “Trash Bin” of Undocumented Immigrants Because of Racism—Even for Him—Campaign Rally

ONE “Shining city on a hill.” ONE “special,” “great country.” “The land of second chances.” “The brilliant diversity spreads like stars, like a thousand points of light in a vast and peaceful sky.” These are just some of the ways former presidents have described America over the years. And then there is Donald Trump.

On Thursday, at a rally in Arizona, the former president—who you might be surprised to learn wants to be president again—described the country as a “trash can,” the content of which, he said, were undocumented immigrants. While the president has long spoken about people not born in America, and anyone with whom he disagrees, in the most dehumanizing terms possible, his comments on Thursday somehow was offensive even to him.

“A lot of people are from the Congo,” Trump told the crowd in Tempe. “Not just South America, they also came from 181 countries as of yesterday. We are the garbage dump, we are like the world’s trash. That’s the way it is, we’re like trash cans. You know, this is the first time I’ve said that…the first time I’ve said ‘trash’, but you know what? That is a very accurate description.”

Since first announcing his candidacy in 2015, in a speech in which he described Mexicans as bringing “drugs, they bringing criminals, they are rapists,” Trump has talked about immigrants – usually those who fall under the undocumented category, although he’s clearly not a fan of legal persons or—using racist, stomach-churning slurs. Just some of that rhetoric has included declaring immigrants “poison the blood of our country” And voiceover they are the “animals” who “destroyed” America. More recently, he began spreading dangerous lies that Haitian immigrants were eating people’s pets in Springfield, Ohio.

Of course, this language is not reserved only for people from other countries but also for anyone Trump identifies as one of his enemies. on ThursdayHe:

  • Call Joe Biden “a stupid fool”
  • Call Nancy Pelosi “crazy as a bug”
  • Dubbed Gavin Newsom “worst”
  • Accused Kamala Harris about “true incompetence”
  • Calling journalists “enemies of the people”

That same day, in an apparent attempt to really drive home the idea that he would rule as a “fascist”during his second term, Trump called into a town hall J.D. Vance is doing on NewsNation to ask, in the third person, “How great is Donald J. Trump?” Vance, who has previously described Trump as “America’s Hitler,” responded: “Sir, of course, you’re excellent.”
