Donald Trump essentially admitted to interfering in the 2020 election, making it clear he wouldn’t hesitate to do it again

When special advisor Jack Smith re-indicted Donald Trump last month the accusations interfering in the 2020 election, he surely expected the former president to have something absurd and incomprehensible to say about the allegations, as Trump is wont to do. What Smith probably didn’t expect was for the GOP nominee in 2024 to actually admit to the crimes he’s accused of—and to claim that he violated federal law is normal. But… surprise!

In an interview with Fox News that aired Sunday night, Trump persistent that he has “every right” to interfere in the 2020 election, telling the host Mark Levin: “It’s crazy that my polls are up. Who ever heard of you being prosecuted for interfering in a presidential election, when you have every right to do that—you get prosecuted and your polls go up?”

Of course, it is not really true to say that Trump had “every right” to interfere in the most recent presidential election. As Representative Ted Lieu, speak for many, wrote on X, “Dear @realDonaldTrump: Are you really that stupid? Do you think President [Joe] Biden have the right to interfere in the upcoming election? Do you want VP? [Kamala] Harris to do what you tried to get the former vice president Mike Pence What for? Are you really that stupid? Besides, interfering in elections is illegal.” On CNN, the lawyer George Conway called Trump’s remarks on Fox “an admission that he tried to interfere in the election and that he didn’t try to enforce federal law,” adding: “And that’s a crime.”

Obviously, rational people who lived through the most recent election and its aftermath—which included a violent riot in a last-ditch effort to keep the then-president in power—knew that Trump was trying to overturn his loss to Biden. What’s more troubling is the fact that, essentially, there are two months left before 2024 The guy who couldn’t admit he lost last time is here again, declaring that it’s perfectly fine to try to overturn results you don’t like. This suggests that he won’t hesitate to engage in similar behavior four years from now.

Meanwhile, this isn’t even the first time Trump has made it clear that he’ll likely lose the 2020 election again in 2024. For more than a year now, he’s been preparing to not accept the election results a second time by:
