Emmy Awards 2024: Things You Won’t See on TV
Emmy Awards 2024 winner All have packed up their trophies and gone home. Although a handful of series have swept multiple categories (Baby reindeer, General, And Bear, We’re looking at you), the show also has a few big surprises in store—like Tricks win one Emmy surprise for best comedy. There’s also a lot of behind-the-scenes footage from the Primetime Emmys that didn’t make it to air. Here’s some of the best we saw in the auditorium (and just outside it).
LOBBY FOR EMMY
Before and during the awards ceremony, the Peacock Theatre lobby is a place to see and be seen—though sometimes it’s so crowded that skirts can be hard to avoid.
Gang from RuPaul’s Drag Race cut a path through the lobby, their colorful dresses dancing behind them, while Dog reservation posse quietly took photos at the entrance. Although none of the shows won a gold statue, their crews came together to celebrate their nominations. Baby reindeer stars and creators Richard Gadd looked a little panicked in his sexy green plaid dress at the beginning of the show as he tried to get back into the theater before the commercial break. He was stuck in the doorway, a line of people begging him to take selfies with them. He happily obliged (he is Scottish, after all) before sprinting back down the aisle to find his seat. He would go on to dominate the Emmys for the limited series, taking home awards for writing, producing, and starring in the show.
RENEW YOURSELF
Unlike shows like the Golden Globes, where food and lots of drinks are brought to the table (or the more recent Oscars, where Jimmy Kimmel (You can stash surprise snacks or tequila under your chair), the Emmys are a DIY event. The lobby has several snack bars, and the lines to buy chips, candy, or drinks are always long. Being a nominee or a top executive doesn’t help either. We found slow horse star Kristin Scott Thomas trying to shout through the snack line with his nominated co-star Jack Lowden and his wife Saoirse Ronan before pulling up her elegant dress and crawling under the rope. Radioactive dust‘S Walton Goggins standing in line just a few feet away from them, and Andrew Scott was lying nearby, drinking champagne with him. Ripley co-star Dakota Fanning.

SOCIAL NETWORK
Many of the front rows of the theater were packed with nominees, and when the live cameras weren’t rolling, the actors took the opportunity to mingle with each other. Before the performance, many of them happily moved from one conversation to another. Ramy Youssef take a picture of Ayo Edebiri pose with Jon Stewart while Stephen Colbert look at Brie Larson rushed to greet her Chemistry Lessons co-star Aja Naomi King, while GeneralAnna Sawai was surrounded by fans rushing to say hello before the show started. During the commercial break that followed, Quinta Brunson jumped out of his seat to hug Da’Vine Joy Randolph while Tyler James Williams nodded in admiration. Naomi Watts And Gillian Anderson huddled together to pose for photos in the front row, while Robert Downey Jr. And Paul Rudd went around behind them, as Selena Gomez view from her front row seat.
