According to Northern news now, Hible is a resident at Boundary Waters Care Facility. On Monday, January 6, emergency personnel were reportedly dispatched to the area at approximately 4:38 p.m. According to a source, a witness reported a fire at the location.

Furthermore, the report noted that Hible’s motorized scooter “caught fire” while she was sitting outside the facility. Hible was said to have been “fully submerged” before staff could remove her from the scooter.

According to this source, Hible suffered severe burns after the incident. Additionally, she was transported to Ely Hospital before being airlifted to a hospital in Duluth, where she died.

Northern news now adding that the state fire marshal is continuing to investigate the fatal incident. However, preliminary reports seem to suggest that “smoking may have caused this accidental fire.”

Finally, the agency noted that outside of Hible, a Border Water Care Facility employee was also injured. However, their case was not life-threatening and they were eventually discharged from the hospital.
