There are three main aspects I consider when evaluating wireless car chargers, and this one meets my needs:

  • Easy to install: Two mounting options provided with this charger make installation simple, making it a favorite in this category.
  • Performance as advertised: A charger should meet its promised output, and this charger does exactly that. The CryoBoost feature means the charger stays cool even under heavy load or in hot weather.
  • Reliability: Many wireless chargers fail here, overheating with prolonged use and not working at all. However, after logging a few hundred miles with this charger, I’ve had no issues with the device, which is a testament to its reliability.

The Qi2 wireless charging standard allows for full-speed 15W charging from non-Apple MagSafe chargers, giving you the convenience of magnetic charging without the worry of slow speeds. The MagSafe ESR Qi2 15W Car Charger with CryoBoost features a Qi2 certified charging head with a strong magnetic ring to securely hold your iPhone in place, regardless of road conditions.

But what is that CryoBoost about? It’s a cooling fan built into the charging head that not only blows cold air through the charger, but also out the back of the iPhone.

Does it help? You bet there is! I’ve been running this for a few weeks and even gave it an unfair test of radiating heat from the vents into the charger and the cooling fan seemed to work great.

This charger offers two mounting options: a highly effective vent clip and a mount that uses high-quality 3M VHB adhesive to attach to the panel.

I tested both installation methods and found them to be sturdy and reliable, even on bumpy roads! However, if you don’t like the vent mount and don’t want to permanently mount it, I have modified mine Use the suction cup holderworks fine.

ZDNET Buying Tips

the ESR Qi2 15W MagSafe Car Charger with CryoBoost Almost as perfect as a wireless car charger. The charger itself is sturdy and well-built, delivering the 15W of power that the Qi2 promises, with CryoBoost keeping the charger and iPhone cool, and magnets holding the iPhone firmly in place regardless of road conditions. Two mounting options — vented or adhesive — provide great flexibility. The only downside is that for $59 you have to provide your own 12V to USB-C car charger, which you can pick up one for under $10. Otherwise this is the perfect iPhone car accessory for me.
