For 365 days, we took our 2DS everywhere just because of StreetPass

At the beginning of 2023, I’m really longing for the days of the 3DS. Partly because the 3DS and Wii U eShop were shutting down that year, but also because I almost completely failed to find any random StreetPass cards the year before. What was once a common activity that I didn’t think much of, has now become a rare and memorable experience. Sometimes you don’t know what you have until it’s gone, right?
In 2022, I took my 2DS to PAX West, GDC, and a few other events in hopes of getting a bunch of StreetPasses, but didn’t get much results. So in 2023, I want to make my efforts more solid, I want to do everything I can to bring this cozy, comfortable app back to myself and to the masses.
So I promised the Internet that I would carry this clean white and orange New 2DS XL with me wherever I go, but I can’t do it alone.
Since StreetPass only works when two users are in close contact with each other, I also needed the help of other 2DS and 3DS owners to get them out. This means every outing is a potential StreetPass opportunity! Times Square in New York City? A Taylor Swift concert? Sure! Gaming etiquette? Game store? You bet! Black Friday shopping madness? Visit the grocery store? Why not! To really get the most out of this, I have to dedicate myself to it.
After a year of taking more photos of the new orange/white 2DS XL than of my partner, I finally made a giant video documenting the entire journey.
But where will I have the most success with StreetPass? Where will I be surprised and where will I be left out in the cold? How many StreetPass cards can I accumulate throughout the year? I can complete all the puzzles in Swap puzzles and defeat all the bosses within Find Mii/StreetPass quests? Will my 2DS survive this journey?
I didn’t really know what I was signing up for when I said to myself, “This is a good idea.” Keeping my system packed and fully charged has definitely been a challenge, but I’ve done my best to weather the ups and downs so you too can have a better chance at finding a card. its own StreetPass in the future.
So after months of sifting through the footage, cutting it all together, and sanding it with the best digital sandpaper I could find, I’m finally ready to share with you all the sentences. answers and more. I know an hour and a half is a lot of time to ask anyone, but I really think you’ll enjoy the trip.
