Ginni Thomas Applauds Lawyers Group Trying to Block Supreme Court Reform Much Needed Because of Her Husband

In the same call, Shackelford accused Justice Elena Kagan—who has boldness to support the creation of a commission to review possible violations of the Court’s new ethics rules—“treasonous” and “disloyal.” He also said that the various reform proposals were part of “a dangerous effort to really destroy” the Supreme Court by “progressives, far-leftists” who are “exasperated by a few cases.”

First Liberty sent a recording of the call to several supporters; ProPublica obtained the recording. The group did not respond to ProPublica’s questions about Shackelford’s comments. Instead, in a statement, the group’s general counsel said: “First Liberty is deeply concerned about the left’s attacks on our democracy and the independence of our judiciary and is fighting to draw attention to this dangerous threat. It is shameful that the political left seems perfectly fine with destroying democracy to achieve court rulings they favor rather than acting through democratic and constitutional means.”

Emailing Shackelford isn’t the first time Ginni Thomas has weighed in on political issues. She also sent multiple messages after the 2020 election making baseless claims of fraud, including one to the then-White House chief of staff. Marking the pasture—that “Biden and the left are attempting to commit the greatest theft in our history.” She urged Trump not to resign. Despite this, Clarence Thomas has refused to recuse himself from lawsuits related to Trump and the 2020 election.
