GloRilla Reveals New Version of Unreleased Song Without the R
After teasing an unreleased song, GloRilla It seems like she’s still glued to the streets of the network. While the response has been largely welcoming, some fans have taken issue with GloRilla’s use of the r-word in her lyrics. In return, the rapper wasted no time in getting back in the booth!

As mentioned, the first version of this unreleased song used the r-word as a slang term to describe how GloRilla and her friends act together. “You probably don’t know what you just started, me and my stupid bitches. Don’t bother with this party, we’re going to step on shit anyway,” Glo rap.
Instead of making a statement or responding to upset fans and critics, Glo edited the lyrics and tease the song again on Sunday (August 25). She kept the same intention but replaced the R-word with more acceptable terms.
“You don’t know what you just started, me and my bitches gettin’ nasty. Don’t give a shit about this party, we’re gonna step on shit no matter what,” Glo raps in the new audio.

While her intentions may not have been offensive, some of the reactions point to a growing movement against the use of the R-word. In particular, the Paralympics have designated the term “hate speech.” on its websiteciting how it went from a medical term coined in 1961 to an everyday insult.
Additionally, in 2010, former President Obama signed ‘Rosa’s Law’ takes effect, replacing the term “mental retardation” with “intellectual disability” in U.S. federal law.
As mentioned, reactions to GloRilla’s first song were mixed, with some users on X (formerly Twitter) claiming that the use of the R-word wasn’t “that profound,” while others called on her to change it.

In 2022, another singer, Lizzo, faced backlash for using “spazz” as slang in her lyrics. Contextually, the term has previously been used against people with physical disabilities and is now considered ableist.
